As long as the car was repaired properly, I wouldn't really be too scared of it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How much is this car worth in parts?
Assuming it's not worth fixing or attempt to fix, with the salvage title... Unless it's getting tracked I suppose.

Woah, that was a short ownership period for him.
This car and it's story is here:

That sale barely closed 2 months ago. I'd say that the price is actually pretty reasonable, depending on the diagnosis. I'm a bit surprised he's throwing it up for sale instead of investigating further. The seller here seemed pretty honest and "starts but shuts off" could be as simple a fueling issue.
interesting.
But with a non origial engine, that has issues and a salvage title I wouldn't think it's worth much. You could get a clean title car for just a little bit more, and prob what you would end up putting into this one.
"the price is actually pretty reasonable" for a fixer upper or that's about what the sum of the parts are worth?
While cars depreciate, there's a point at which the depreciating curve should start to flat-line.
I would not be parting that car out, at least not until someone diagnosed it as a catastrophic engine failure.
Think about it this way, for $10k you can quite possibly have a running 996 ready to work as a daily driver. At that price point and age of the car, the salvage title hurts you much less than it does on a brand-new car. As long as the car was repaired properly, I wouldn't really be too scared of it.
I might be a bit optimistic on this specific car, but I liked the straight-shooter attitude that the previous owner had. Starts but shuts off, sounds like something like a fueling issue or a crank position sensor. Neither of which should be big $$ to correct and could happen to a car that's in pristine shape, just as easily.
You say a little bit more money could get you into a better car, but how much more money? $15k vs $10k is a 50% increase...
true. but i just purchased a clean 99 two owner car with a new clutch, ims and water pump for 14k.
this car adds another 900 in taxes too so its very close to what i paid for one with a lot of work done...
