Maybe my impressions will change after a few hours behind the wheel.

The sound is much better when you replace all the speakers as the low end/bass easily distorts with the stock.

You should have installed one side first and then use the balance to switch between old and new.

So, I finally got around to upgrading my Bose speakers to JBL 328's. I only did the two dash and two rears. I left the door speakers, head unit and amp stock. I bought 2 pair on Ebay for about $45 per pair shipped. Based on posts I've read I had some pretty high expectations.
Install - The JBL's were pretty easy to swap out. A couple small modifications to the speaker frame, but no cutting. Less than an hour for all four speakers. Pretty much plug and play. I took some pictures, but the app is not letting me load. I'll try again later. In comparing the oem Bose and the JBL's, it looks like the JBL's may have a better cone quality. The Bose have paper cones and slightly larger magnet.
Sound quality - I'm no audiophile, but my initial reaction is I can't tell the difference in sound quality.
Not the most satisfying modification. At least It didn't cost a lot.
Maybe my impressions will change after a few hours behind the wheel. Although I rarely listen to the radio. PSE is a fine sound track on its own. Plus, the fm reception sucks.
Next upgrade will be the Becker aux in with dummy switch.
You should have installed one side first and then use the balance to switch between old and new. You would have heard a difference as I did. Remember the 328 are only high and mid. The sound is much better when you replace all the speakers as the low end/bass easily distorts with the stock. Not so with the jbl.

It's been a couple weeks and I've learned to appreciate the difference. Although I would still say it's subtle. I did the balance/fader thing after installing each speaker and still thought the difference was minor.
Btw - I also lined my sub box with dynamat.
Overall, I think it was a good upgrade. I'm getting ready to send my cdr23 back for aux in and dummy switch upgrade.m
