If you choose to go this route, you will end up messing up the "sequence" of the top operation, which will require recalibration of the top using the PIWIS system.

At first I could have a helper press on the back of the deck and that worked, then that stopped, i figured I could use the screwdriver to bush the rod while it was attempting to move and that worked few times.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi, I am having problems opening my convertible top, When I press the button the top latch dissangages and it starts opening I hear the motor in the back moving but the rear deck does not move. I tried doing the emergency open with the allen key in the back and get to a point where I can't turn anymore. It appears that the back latch is not opening, and it appears almost impossible to get to it as the deck is closed. Is there a way to release that latch? Or is something else going wrong?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So after a day of troubleshooting I am 2 steps back one step forward. With time I found out the latch in the back is stuck. At first I could have a helper press on the back of the deck and that worked, then that stopped, i figured I could use the screwdriver to bush the rod while it was attempting to move and that worked few times. Right now I am at the part when nothing works for the latch. I even removed the trunk part where it latches too thinking maybe that was in the way.. nothing. When I try to open the top the latch will move about 1 inch and then stop. So I am thinking the drive link needs greesing, the drive link needs to be replaced, or I need a new engine. But its impossible to get to the back of the car with the covertible lid closed. I can put the top half-way up by some PST2 wizadry but no way to move the lid.

That latch is driven by a cable connected to the same drive mechanism that moves the clamshell. It's a small electric motor (not the hydraulic system). The first thing to check is that the appropriate limit switches are made. The sequence won't start unless the limit switches are in the right place. Even if you are able to move that latch, there are two more that hold down the left and right sides of the clamshell. If you can't figure out anything with the electrical system, it might be mechanical. You can manually open the clamshell by removing the cover behind the rear seatbacks and turning it by hand. (the instructions to do this are in your owners manual). If you choose to go this route, you will end up messing up the "sequence" of the top operation, which will require recalibration of the top using the PIWIS system. Only move the clamshell and top manually if you have exhausted other options. I'm familiar with this system, but there are several things that can go wrong, and it's hard to diagnose over the internet.
