Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replaced the shifter with a 997GT3 shifter and made no difference either.
Leading evidence: 'Replace shifter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Combined work: Replace couple of years ago and made no difference + Replace shifter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 1 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
What you're feeling is internal to the transmission (the synchros are trying hard to match when the oil is so viscous) so no external changes/mods will help much.

Just had them do the oil change BTW to see if it improved things.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi folks, been a while since I was on. I'm sure I got an answer to this before but just can't find it under "search".......so.......apologies, but once more.......gearchange is slow/sticky/heavy when cold, especially 1st to 2nd. I was told by someone that there's a better gearbox oil than the std stuff Porsche puts in. Just had them do the oil change BTW to see if it improved things. It didn't and in fact I think it made things slightly worse (might just be me!!).
So, anyone know if there's a better lube out there that would improve things, or is this "just the way things are"..?
Appreciate the help.
My '04 C2 has always been sluggish from 1st to 2nd when cold. Put in a 997 shifter and that helped - much better shifting throughout than before. I think they are just that way when cold.
Mine has always been stiff when cold. Had the fluid changed a couple of years ago and made no difference. Replaced the shifter with a 997GT3 shifter and made no difference either.
Exactly the same here, OEM new fluid made no difference to my car at 43k miles, I could argue that maybe when cold it was a little worse, could it be that the newer oil was a little less viscous?, negligible but definitely not any better.

I have found OEM tranny fluid to be the best for 996 trannys. Put in other brands before only to replace it with OEM.
I would double clutch and shift slowly until the car warms up. Why would you need lighting shifts when the car is cold?
If you think 996 trannys are a pain, try GT3 trannys..
What you're feeling is internal to the transmission (the synchros are trying hard to match when the oil is so viscous) so no external changes/mods will help much. Stock fluid is the best like Chao said. Do you guys pause a bit in neutral for a split second in between shifts? It helps quite a bit. 1st to 2nd when cold the best is to keep the rev between 2k-3k and pause in neutral and ease it in second.
+1, agreed with Ashai, in the first 5-8 min I like to first go to neutral and slowly/nicely push into 2nd from 1st, it does help gear transition and hopefully less wear on the synchro and other internal parts...
I don't do well when it's cold. I assume my car operates tye same way. Just be gentle till the oil temp gets up a bit.
I tell my kid: How would you like it if you had to jump out of bed and run a sprint after having been sound asleep? Give tye car a chance to warm up.
