Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found this ad this morning on SFbay CL. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/4468083206.html I cannot tell if it is a dude or a lady in the first photo. I almost want to check it out with only 8K on the car, but $48K asking price is...just wow. I can buy 2 996s or move up to 997.

POST 2Original post

When that car was purchased, the 997 models were not available as a Targa until 2007. I looked for a year for my Targa beginning in 2006 and I was looking for an unusual car in great condition with full leather. I considered a '07 but found out they were only available as 4 wheel drive and I wanted to re-live my Porsche experience 30 years earlier with a 911 rear wheel drive only. Finally found my '03 with Boxter full red leather in June of 2007. This car is overpriced at 48K and it does not have full leather. Not sure I would want the Triptronic. but less than 3% of 996 Carreras are Targas so finding a great one takes effort. Here is hoping that the 996 Targa prices will appreciate from where they are now being rear drive and the glass roof now that the 991 Targa is available. POST 4Original post

$48k is insane. Granted 8k miles makes it almost new although with so few miles it sounds like a candidate for IMSB issues. What do you think a car like this with only 8k miles is worth? I'd be a player myself at about $30k. There's a 2002 Cabriolet with 61k miles out my way seller is asking $33k. That's equally outrageous.

POST 6Original post

Poor car...only driven for 8k miles. $30k top.

Seems like you have never been to the bay Area.

POST 8Original post

Who cares if the person in the pic is a man or woman? Might not be the owner anyhow. You're buying the car not the owner. Check out the car if you are interested. Use the various car web sites that offer trade-in, private and retail prices of cars to get at least a sense of the what the car is worth and could sell for. Remember price is an opinion, not a fact.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Price is an opinion? Never heard that before.

POST 10Original post

Well my '02 doesn't have good film protector so I will sell it for discounted price of $45k .... 6spd and ln imsb ....

Base MSRP on a 2004 Targa was around $75k. Loaded to the hilt it could approach $100k but from what she listed I'd guess the original window sticker was around $85k.
