Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You can't adjust dampening though, just height, but i don't think you need too anyway.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know it is in the design and tires won't help that much but I would love to find an independent mechanic who actually likes the 996 model and knows something about them in the DC/Maryland/ Virginia area who could do something with my suspension components. Don't need the car for competition. Don't need a love boat either, but ouch with these DC area potholes.
NM. Just saw you're in the NCR. I'm originally from the area myself and have had these guys do work on all of my cars:

Good work, trustworthy too. Ask for Ed (owner), Anand or Justin. If you do, please make sure to tell them that Glenn T. said hello.
17's w/touring tires and Koni FSD coupled to OEM "touring"(comfort) springs.
Otherwise get a Corvette or other cars with magnetorheological shocks.
After that trade in your man card and buy a Buick. I hear they have a turbo regal model....
I went with Falken Ziex 912 V rated 17". Nice ride and quiet.
Compare on tire rack. They do comparisons and you can pick one with the best balance of ride and handling.
I'm in the area and I recently removed standard sway bars and springs from my 2000 Carrera. I installed an ROW M030 kit. Not sure if they would help your situation or not (maybe you're already on standard springs), but I'll sell them cheap if you're interested.

I recommend H&R Street Coilovers. On my 40th AE i had the optional M030 sport suspension from Porsche and i couldn't wait to get rid of it. Unless i was driving on glass, it was unbearable on these crappy roads. I installed some H&R Street coilovers and couldn't be happier. Took that edge off, but still keeps it firm. If you never go to the track this is what you want. You can't adjust dampening though, just height, but i don't think you need too anyway. It's not cheap but about a grand cheaper on average, than PSS10s. On ebay you can find them for around $1800 new. I scored a used set for $1200. Good luck!
