Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Do note, however, that the newer M96 crate motors have a revised design for the IMS bearing that eliminates the possibility of removing it via the Flat 6/LN Engineering IMSB external bearing removal tools; it can only be replaced via an engine teardown.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, as a noob I've been up late night reading and learning from the various threads, you guys rock and it beats the hell out of watching the news.
Anyway, I see a lot of you all purchasing late model 996 with new factory crate engines in them, which is also my case. My engine was installed on 9/23/11 with a new clutch and flywheel.
Questions:
1. Does this mean I really have a 997.1 engine as I've seen in some other threads.? How can I tell?
2. Does the date mean that the unspoken of has been resolved? How can I be certain?
I know this can be a sore spot but I wanna really get on this car and drive her like she would appreciate
Thanks
It is likely that your replacement engine has the newer larger IMSB and shaft which is an improvement over the earlier bearings. Also the RMS seal and other issues are less frequently a problem with the later engines. That said, you can still have problems.
Just drive the car regularly and change oil at 5K or once a year and enjoy her!
Driving it as it was intended is rumoured to help with IMS reliability, plus it keeps a big smile on your face.
