Suggestion

I'm confused, how much cheaper will this 'disposable' engine be over the course of 5 years or so, with labor costs of replacing yearly?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading this great article about a disposable car thats good for 18 month/20,000 miles, I have decided to begin developing the M96 disposable engine for our 996's. I think we have been taking the wrong approach by using the expensive "solutions", rebuilds, etc. when we could just drop the engine, throw it in the recycle bin, then install the all new disposable one after @ 1 year/15,000 miles. I have named the new engine the M96-D (for disposable of course). Now I only need a few more investors to start production. Excerpt from article: "The Basura is a four-seat city car designed for a single year's use. The Basura's body is made of a newly developed cardboard/balsa wood composite; it has the same tensile strength as aluminum but can be recycled like ordinary paper, and is finished using recycled paint. The 1-liter three-cylinder engine uses a thin-wall aluminum block with disposable nickel/tin alloy cylinder liners. It connects to a six-speed twin clutch automatic transmission with gears made from recycled plastic. The car has a design life of just 18 months or 20,000 miles."

POST 2Original post

I'm confused, how much cheaper will this 'disposable' engine be over the course of 5 years or so, with labor costs of replacing yearly? What will performance figures be, comparable? Not knocking just curious. The idea is cool.

POST 3Original post

KK, any DIY lately? I'm sure ppl here are interested.

POST 4Original post

Still wondering what made you change your mind and come back on these forums? Is it because your BF always says he's outta here as well and ends up coming back too? Or is it the few posts where people mentioned they missed you?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, it was all the nice PM's I got. BTW, I must protect their identity to prevent retribution to them from you. Also I missed you most of all! Well if you count the 996 six-way power seat switch disassembly/repair. I could only find pics of the 993 switch internals when I did mine.
