Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The x74 kit came pre-assembled so the bump stop is already installed inside.
Leading evidence: 'Install inside' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install inside' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Just fitted ROW M030 to my 40th, swapping out the US M030 setup, they are not the same.

I know I swapped the M030 suspension on my 40th to X74 kit which came with new springs, shocks, and mounting plates.

I recall reading that the factory does use a shim method for fine tuning each car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I asked about this before and I have just kind of lived with but it does bug me every once in a while. My 40th AE seems to sit a little higher passenger rear on side than the other. There is about a .5 inch maybe difference in the wheel well gaps between the passenger side rear fender and the drivers side rear fender the drivers side to top of tire being the lower one of the two. I've measured this while parked with no one sitting in the car. It seems to me that since the installed OEM x74 and has had almost 10k miles to settle this would have sorted itself out by now.
Is there was a way to level x74 suspension? Car drives fine and alignment done since and tire wear are fine its really more of an I KNOW it is there and kind of bugs me. I know cant corner balance non-coil overs so any options available to even this up?
I know this does not help but have you tried measuring the ride height the way specified by Porsche instead? I.e., from a designated point at the lower control to the ground. I forgot where but there is a diagram descibing that.
It is my understanding that the distance from the bottom of fender to the ground will vary from car to car and it's purely a cosmetic issue, which I realize is what you want to address here. Other than adjustable coil-overs, I don't see a good way to level the x74.
I recall reading that the factory does use a shim method for fine tuning each car. You might have a look at that. Do you have that monster 996 book (cant remember the title) which explains all?
Paul
Hmm, I actually do have that book. I'll have to research that.
Only thing with shims is you can only shim the low side to even with the high side and I like it lower :/
I know cosmetic but annoying.
On the 40th, the shocks and springs are different on the ROW to the US. Maybe there are different shims as well. Just fitted ROW M030 to my 40th, swapping out the US M030 setup, they are not the same.
I know I swapped the M030 suspension on my 40th to X74 kit which came with new springs, shocks, and mounting plates. Only item I did not swap were sway bars as those are same on ROW030, M030 and X74. I do not recall any shims or bump stops in the x74 kit?
The x74 kit came pre-assembled so the bump stop is already installed inside. So unless the factory screwed up the assembly, it's unlikely the problem. What is this shim you guys are talking about? Any pics? FWIW, my front has a 10mm diff between left and right too. My rears are of the same height.
I don't believe there are any shims that came my X74 kit either. Silly question but are the top mounts for the rears handed?.........yes they are because the drop link hole. Answered occured to me when writing this. Have you thought of removing that shock and check to see if it "seats" properly? No obstruction from underneath the shock tower? Maybe a spacer is there. A 1/2" sounds like a lot to me.
I don't know about any "kit". I was referring to the standard 40th Anniversary car.
I have read that the 40th Anni. came with the M030 same as ROW option but that the factory had to install 10mm shims on USA bound cars due to government headlight height regulations.
I may be misinformed, sorry if this is so. That big fat 996 book has at least one definite mistake regarding the 40th model, that being the third radiator which the book states is standard on the 40th.
Cheers, Paul
I think it depends on how the car sits at the factory. Springs are not precision part, these plates alone or in combo help to get the chassis alignment within spec. I have read that they are used to raise M030 suspension on USA bound cars up 10mm.
I don't know what combination of plates are used. It is possible a 6.5mm plate equals 10mm in suspension ride height. One would have to sit down and figure/plot out the geometry.
When you buy a retro fit "kit" M030/X74 from the factory, they may or may not not be included?
That makes sense actually that they use to fine tune but what sucks is that you seemingly can raise but not lower :/
I am going to have to really delve into this and maybe get my indy to get in there and see if there is any difference between one side and the other maybe swap bump stops, shims see if can even it up a bit.
