Suggestion · Original poster

I can find a clutch cheaper than that so hopefully I can use my own parts.

Clutch is toast. Time for a clutch and LN IMSB/AOS/RMS

Suggestion · Original poster

I would buy the parts myself to save a bit, but dont shops usually charge a fee for using your own parts?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So anyone know where I can get this done in Upstate NY? Near Albany. I am trying to keep it under $2500 if possible. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 11323788

That should more than cover the parts, some new high-lift jackstands, and any additional tools you might need...

POST 3Original post

I just did this. I did LN Engineering IMS bearing, clutch, fallout bearing, preassure plate and slave sylinder. On older cars it was suggested also to change the clutch fork. Uncertain if that is still a part to replace now.

POST 4Original post

If I was near Albany or the Hudson I'd either look closer to the city for a shop or you will need to find an indy mechanic of good ability. This is just my opinion but I wouldn't bother with the dealer in CNY.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 11323788

I think you are looking at a bit more, around $3000 or even higher. You are over $2000 in parts, especially if the Indy buys them. 2003 Carrera 4S Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 Rust Red

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've read a couple threads where people had it done for less. I would buy the parts myself to save a bit, but dont shops usually charge a fee for using your own parts?

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 11323788

I'd call R & D in Albany. No idea what they would charge, but they'll do a good job. http://www.bavarianrocketscience.com/

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's what I was thinking. I am gonna make some calls tomorrow and see what I come up with. My Pelican Parts shopping cart has a spec clutch, aos, and LN IMS and its onlt 1,200. I would imagine it should be around 10-15 hours labor so hopefully it wont be too bad. Fingers crossed!

POST 9Original post

For your LN, I'd say get the pro kit ($799) if it's applicable... And budget for a brake/clutch fluid change if it's been a while and you will probably have to do at least one motor oil/filter change.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 11326132

IIRC that dual row bearing takes a special installer, so budget for that as well if you go that route. 2003 Carrera 4S Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 Rust Red

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I was going try to find an indy that does these often, so they'd probably have the installer I'd imagine.

POST 12Original post

Maybe consider adding the DOF also? http://tunersmotorsports.com/?page_id=103

POST 13Original post

Do you have a tip or manual? Take into account that Tip generally cost more as it's a bit more labor intensive.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its a manual, I am considering the DOF actually. We shall see. Still getting quotes.

POST 15Original post

I'd ask if it's cool to bring your own parts before springing that on a shop. Walking in the door with your own box of stuff is not quite as blunt as just saying, "I think you're a crook and you're trying to rip me off," but it doesn't seem far off...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I havent asked any of them that yet. Just getting regular quotes for now. It looks like it'll be between 2500-3000 so far. I also have a friend who is a Porsche tech I can bug!

POST 17Original post

I recently had new clutch, IMS (LN), AOS, Water Pump, brake flush and a few other odds/end done. I'm on the road, but can check my bill and let you know what was charged for each/hours. My Indy is fine with me bringing my own parts (but he does cut back my discount for paying cash). On this job, I brought some of the parts in and he sourced others. My "clutch" job was more complicated as my fork was broken, which led to other issues. I was in the ballpark on hours/parts cost as what has been posted, so it probably comes down to your Indy's rate. Happy to get the specifics if it would help. I'm in Chicago.

Lol, didn't read the title of the post. Doh!

POST 20Original post

I was able to find it- Parts (Indy) Clutch Kit $781.42/99611691102 AOS $119.67 / 99610702651 Water Pump $399.44/99610634054 (that one hurt) Parts (me) LN Retrofit from Pelican: $649 (other various, but not applicable to this thread) Hours: Clutch 6 Hours IMS Update 4 Hours (likely high here) AOS: 1.5 Hours Water Pump: 1.5 Hours I've used this mechanic exclusively for everything that I could not do myself (or had time to do myself). They run a good shop, sponsor local PCA and in general I think they are honest and fair. Hope this helps-

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea that is definitely a good guideline. I can find a clutch cheaper than that so hopefully I can use my own parts.

R&D Automotive is your best bet. They are very familiar with the process and have also done a few DOF kits as well. Feel free to use me as a reference

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got off the phone with Auto Haus up in Burnt Hills. They said it's be about $1100 in labor and I can source my own parts if I want with no extra charge. I spoke to R&D yesterday and they were closer to $3000 all in.
