I was resigned to buying big bottles of 05-40 for yesterday's oil change but it says it is formulated for turbo diesel trucks.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was looking for this about a year ago and called Mobile for where I could by it. The 0W-40 was only available in quarts and 55 gallon drums. I was resigned to buying big bottles of 05-40 for yesterday's oil change but it says it is formulated for turbo diesel trucks. Might be the same thing for cars but I didn't know. Was about to load up on 10 quarts of 0W-40 when I saw the big bottles on the shelf. This is not an earth shattering post but it's nice to save a couple-of-bucks on the oil. ....just saying'

POST 2Original post

Yeah and Walmart actually carries it! "Save money, live better" But every time I check the dipstick, I can't get over how thin this oil is - almost like water.

POST 3Original post

just bought 4 jugs of 5 qt 0W-40 from Walmart myself. Had to go to two different stores though. Next time, order to store online. Saves you a trip. One of the walmart's said the 5 qt jugs were delete... so that's why I got 4 at the other store. Hope they don't stop carrying them.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I worked at Walmart in Bentonville AR and I can tell you they're responsive to requests from customers. Yes do a store pick up through walmart.com. $25 vs. $40 at the auto zone. All cheaper than quarts.

POST 6Original post

Wal-Mart for a number of years had a contract with some oil companies and they held exclusive rights to retailing the 5 quart jugs of oil. I believe now that the 5 quart containers are available everywhere.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes on jugs in general but I was referring to the 0W-40 availability. When I called Mobile a year or two ago it was not available in large jugs anywhere. If someone on this forum recalls buying it in large jugs several years ago perhaps it was in jugs then and was disco'd and then brought back recently.

POST 8Original post

It had to have been closer to two years as I've been using the 5qt jugs for some time now.

POST 10Original post

I have a 2002 C4 Cab with 90K and the owners manual says use 10W-40 synthetic. It appears you guys like 0W-40 and have a lot more experience, your reasons and thought process please for this grade? A new guy trying to learn. Thanks.

POST 11Original post

Its already summer down here for us so the 0-40W is a big no-no. The Northern guys might be able to use it. (I cant resist a good oil thread and a chance to plug JG DT40W your engine will thank you)
