I replaced blown cats on my '03 C4S with Fabspeed's x-pipe 200-cell unit and it's been great.

Ok, after the long agony of trying to hunt down some used cats to no avail, I've shipped my cats to Gert for the upgrade.

Also note they call out the catalytic converter as one of the items to check visually.

LOL one thing good about CA here...dry and clean roads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any fitment, CEL, and smog test issues? Looks like a very good solution for folks with bad cats in CA. TIA
Ok, after the long agony of trying to hunt down some used cats to no avail, I've shipped my cats to Gert for the upgrade. Will update this thread again once I got the cats back.
Gert explained he's been doing this for years and with HJS200 cell elements, the cats will pass the most stringent smog tests and they will not trip any CEL either. I have confidence in him so there's no reason for me to expect otherwise. Will have to waiit for 1yr for my smog check to verify fully though.
Yes please keep us updated as all the cel200 cat elements I've seen only state 49 state legality but I suspect that is to cover the worst case scenario for them.
I replaced blown cats on my '03 C4S with Fabspeed's x-pipe 200-cell unit and it's been great. No CA emissions problems -- while it lacks (or lacked) the required imprint to give CA smog testers a blanket OK, it indeed passed with flying colors.
Thanks for the info and good for you
I've also seen posters who said they failed the visual part. Highly shop dependent and I want more certainty and don't want to be at their mercy.
My expectation is if you use HJS200, you will pass the tailpipe part easily. Just the visual part could be an issue for some shops.
If you look at the emission numbers, the tolerance is pretty high so it's difficult to fail with quality cat elements. From my stock cat a couple of yrs ago. Also note they call out the catalytic converter as one of the items to check visually. With 200 cell cats, I expect the HC to jump to the low tens and the NO to low 100's.

Look what arrived
Gert turned them around the same day they received them (Thank Gert!). Fedex only took 3 days and 60 Euros. Not sure why shipping from US to them is so expensive and slow ($160 with USPS).
Beautiful welding. I also took some pics of the internal HJS200 cat insert and will post them later.

Gert is just amazing. Extremely patient to answer all my questions (a lot) both pre and post sale. I also bought my x74 from him a few yrs back and can't be happier with their products and world class service.
Forget to mention in addtion to the amazing workmanship, they also packed the cats really well with lots of protection.
Stay tuned for the review
The Fisters don't sound too loud to me because I have a coupe and usually roll up my windows. I think combined with the sport cats, the sound should be perfect for me
My major worry now is losing low end torque with so much material removed from the stock setup. I shed ~6lbs though with the sport cats.
Update: just installed the cats and had a 45min drive. ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME!! Keep in mine I have the Fisters mufflers.
Surprisingly it's not much louder than the Fisters alone. The sound is deeper, angrier, a little more bark when throttle is blipped. Love it. Just perfect. I know it's worthless w/o a sound clip and pardon my poor description.
The postcat O2 reading and pattern are super healthy at 0.7v steady at idle. Cat readiness test has not been completed/run yet but based on the O2 reading, I'm pretty sure it will pass. Will report back once I put more miles on it.
The low end torque is same as before but the high end feels stronger and more free revving. For $1,200 this mod is a no brainer even if only one of your cats is bad, especially for ppl who don't care about the bling of typical sport cats.
Thank you so much Gert
I'm interested in the for the performance and weight saving, luckily I don't have to take any emissions tests here.
Is there any performance difference between these and the Fabspeed sports cats?
Ok, I've put more than 60 miles on the new cats. Now all emission readiness flags are set and O2 readings look good.
