another question...last night while driving I noticed that my high beams will work with my hid's and then the next time I go to use the high beams (turning them on/off/on when a vehicle is approaching) only the high beams turn on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

been lurking for a while....sold my track car and found my dream car. 02 Carrera C4S. has 103k km. been in a couple of accidents, but repairs were done well and no rebuild or write off against it. needs some love....needs front outer c.v. boots, rear tires, and some metal lines running along the passenger side look to be bent from a DIY jacking gone wrong. looks to be the heater feed and return lines...all that will be looked at immidiately. needs a good paint polish for sure....blacks cars heh! lots of maintenance done. new clutch and IMS bearing done in summer 2012. new control arms, top mount bearings, sway bar end links, shocks and eibach springs done last year... noticed a few things since ive had the car that I would like to bounce off you guys. car wouldn't start last night, pretty sure its a combination of the car just coming out of storage and being shipped here (ottawa) from toronto and my son and I playing with all the buttons and radio for an hour while It was in the "on" position. trickle charge over night seemed to have fixed it....I hope so anyways....well see when I get home from work. oil pressure guauge, what should that read at idle? blue smoke on start up...not a lot....goes away after a bit. some say it normal some say to get it checked out. I see in the maintenance history, they replaced an oil separator last week on it. there is also a loud ticking noise coming from the right rear on the engine (when looking at the back of the car). timing chain tensioner? I see that was done april of 2013. these need constant adjustment? so far I love it. love being behind the wheel of it. drives so smooth for being so close to the ground. I brace myself for impact over bumps but nothing happens...I just glide over it. surprising how comfy this sports car is. Pics...

POST 2Original post

Congrats! It looks cleaner in the photos than I expected based on your description!

POST 3Original post

Nice looking ride. Some answers: 1 - Battery drain sounds normal (I made this mistake the first time I detailed it with the radio on. Only took 1 hr) 2 - Blue exhaust smoke will occur every once in a while. More frequent on short runs (like running it less than 5 mins to move out of the garage) 3 - Oil pressure when warm will be about 2.5 depending on conditions. Closer to 2 in hot weather sitting in traffic 4 - If the ticking noise goes away after a few mins it could be a lifter thats lost pressure while sitting. I had this until my last oil change and oddly its now gone

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

awesome. thanks for the info. lots of guys that track here? im lucky to be close to one of the best tracks in NA, imo anyways....Calabogie motorsports. what do you do for these cars when it comes to tracking? leave stock or do some oil cooling mods? I read that it probably wouldn't hurt to get some oil pan baffles in...

POST 5Original post

I have an 02 as well. Had it for a month and already put a thousand miles on it. So far no issues beyond an AC recharge. I can't tell you how much I love my car. They are just fabulous vehicles.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

pelican auto parys list 2 different part numbers for the front outter cv boots. is there a quick way to tell which one I should be ordering?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

never mind...ordered through the dealer. another question...last night while driving I noticed that my high beams will work with my hid's and then the next time I go to use the high beams (turning them on/off/on when a vehicle is approaching) only the high beams turn on. is this some kind of relay switch problem?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

what are the metal lines running underneath the passenger side? heater core lines? coolant lines? looks like some one jacket the car up on those lines and they are bent.

POST 11Original post

AWDGuy, You can find parts diagrams here: http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...artscatalogue/ This should help you determine whether the lines are coolant (likely) or A/C lines. The parts catalog also then gives you the part number for replacements as well. Search Rennlist for info regarding draining and replacing coolant in the 996. Also, Pelican Parts has good tutorials for this and many other DIY maintenance. Regarding your engine smoking, I believe you mentioned that the AOS had been replaced recently by the prior owner. If the AOS had failed, it is likely that oil got into the exhaust system (cats, mufflers, etc) and this might contribute to a light amount of smoking for awhile until the oil burns out of the system.
