For the solder connection, I used a connector from an auto parts store that you slip the two wires into and then heat up with a torch or lighter to melt the solder.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to change these (apparently this is a common problem, and it looks like a simple fix) and I have a few questions. Firstly, I note that all of the how-tos on this subject show the replacement part - a "series resistor" - as part no. 996.616.141.00. However, my dealer says it's part no. 996.624.141.00. Obviously, I trust the dealer as they looked it up with my VIN, but the latter part is about $30 more expensive. Has anyone done this on a C4S, and can they confirm? Secondly, in the various how-tos ( main one being Loren's on RennTech ) indicate that you don't need to remove the bumper if you are willing to solder a few wires. If I remove the bumper cover, is it just fairly simple plug and play or do I have to take a lot of the radiator and fan apart? Finally, does anyone have any other links to how-tos on this for the 996/986 cars? I always like to check out a few links - has Van Svenson done a Youtube for this? THX

POST 2Original post

I used a tutorial on the Pelican Parts website when I replaced my radiator fan resistor last winter. I took the bumper cover off for better access. You also have to remove the wheel well liner. (both are easier to remove than you might think). Also as you might know pulling the bumper cover off allows you to clean out the area between the A/C condenser and radiator which accumulates leaves, grass, cig butts, etc. and which tends to rot out your radiator if left in place. I could not figure out how to simply do a plug and play replacement without removing the radiator and fan from the car which is considerable work. So I snipped and resoldered one lead to the fan. I think the other end was a connector that plugged in. For the solder connection, I used a connector from an auto parts store that you slip the two wires into and then heat up with a torch or lighter to melt the solder.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
