I did keep my SUV which I use for hauling my bike and for longer trips where I need more room for luggage.

DIY oil changes go for $80-100 and the community recomend these to be every 5k miles.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering a 996 as a daily driver that I can take to work, leave at the airport for a few days, put the kids in the back, etc...
Is anyone doing this and want to share their experiences? Let me know that good, bad and ugly. Thx.
It's a modern car. Perform the proper maintenance and it will be a great daily. The rear seat is pretty much useless though, but should be fine for short trips with the kids.
996 daily drives like any other 2+2 car. There is nothing different about it. Frunk is useful for weekly grocery runs, rear seats for tennis rackets, front sit when moved back can accommodate the golf bag.
Car has great turning radius, good visibility, and in stock form is not afraid of ramps or speed bumps.
Nothing different about it? I beg to differ, sir! It's a blast to drive!!
I use mine as a daily driver. I absolutely love it for that purpose. Doesn't matter if it's a trip down the block to the corner market or a 300-mile round trip visiting clients, it makes every drive FUN!
There are zero down-sides that I see. And, kids fit just fine in the back.
The slightest inclination of snow requires WINTER TIRES. You will loose it in a heart beat if you don't have winter tires. (ask me how I know). If your kids are under the age of 10years and you don't shop for a weeks shopping, then the 996 is an excellant all year round driver.
Awesome as a DD
agree you need winter tires
Frunk will take groceries, kids hockey bag,... my 7 year old fits just fine in the back seat
The best part is the rewards for the driver
Why wouldn't you drive such a lovely thing as much as you could
As long as you are realistic with regards to yearly maintenance costs I think a 996 makes a very good daily driver. I set aside $2500 a year for scheduled and non scheduled maintenance. My first 12 months cost me a whopping $60 for a DIY oil and filter. This year I'll likely do clutch, RMS and IMS which will eat up 100% of my allocated funds for 2014 but remember I'm up $2,440 thanks to getting off easy last year. These aren't Honda's but honestly a well sorted one with a service history shouldn't be outrageous to maintain.
My C4S has been my daily driver for years. I agree with the prior comments on winter tires, etc. I can fit a roll-aboard suitcase in the trunk easily. A larger bag fits fine in the front seat the couple of times that I need it each year.
Its a great daily driver, I daily drive mine for 240 miles weekly and actually its my first "super car", anything else now feels very slow. When I fill up the tank (15 gallons), it lasts around 280-330 miles, some flooring and sometimes bumper to bumper. One thing to consider is that these cars are very affordable now but unless you perform maintenance yourself, it is still the same maintenance as a 100k porsche... Depending on how you drive, it needs rear tires every 10k-15k and there are some very good cheap tires that cost around $150 / tire (sumitomo). DIY oil changes go for $80-100 and the community recomend these to be every 5k miles. You have to inspect the used oil filter for metal particles. There are some problems with these engines such as Intermix & IMS bearing, make sure you do your research on solutions to these.
A couple of issue to consider for use as a DD would be:
A. If the car is lowered constant maneuvering around steep angle exits/speed bumps...scraping of the front lip. For me one quick trip to the mall and I shattered my front bumper due to an overly steep incline....luckily I got the mall to reimburse for the damage.
B. A lot of cold starts and very short trips with the car not reaching full operating temperature.......
It's great as a DD. I have put 22,000 miles on mine since I bought it two years ago and enjoyed every single mile. I did keep my SUV which I use for hauling my bike and for longer trips where I need more room for luggage. I don't understand why people keep these as garage queens and don't enjoy them every day. They are just saving it for the next owner!
