Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My fan will go through stages where it will make lots of noise and blow some air but not nearly what it should. It doesn't seem to be a completely shot fan because it still blows some air and after a bit it will decide to blow full on again. It is one of those problems that is just intermittent enough that if I take it to a tech it is likely to work perfectly for the tech. Any ideas on what it could be? If it does it anymore, I will take it to a tech but it would be nice to be able to suggest what is going on so that he doesn't just check it and tell me he can't find anything.

POST 2Original post

Assuming it is a 996 can't tell from the pic what year it is? auto heat working as normal? Set it to a temp that is way hot (or cold) and put it on max, to see if it stays on high for awhile.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks I will try that. I have tried setting it way too cool and it still won't blow, except when it decides to blow normally. Haven't tried running the heater. The air that is coming out of the vent is cool. The AC was recently serviced and is working. It is just that it doesn't seem to want to blow very much sometimes.

POST 4Original post

My HVAC control unit acts up sometimes. In order to get the unit operating in the mode I want, I sometimes have to switch it off or change modes and then adjust it back to what I want. In cases when it isn't working right, the fan doesn't spin up to the appropriate speed - like what you're describing. I'm sure I could address this with a new HVAC controller, but it works well enough for now, and there are other 996 items I'd rather spend the money on.

That is exactly what I am describing. It makes sense that it is a controller issue and not a hardware issue since if it were a hardware issue it wouldn't work at all. Have you found it to be an electronic gremlin that is not worth the expense to fix? Any idea what a new controller unit would run?
