Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There was no 4wd 996 Targa, unless perhaps someone approached Porsche Exclusive with a very large check book.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know about cars.com, autotrader.com, porsche.com, and here on rennlist.
I'm surprised how small the selection is on the first two. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
I found mine at Weissach Autohaus in CT.

I've also peeked at:

Phil at Weissach is a great guy to deal with if you find a car he's selling.
Check cars.com and carsoup.com. Both have a lot of 996s at descent prices, both dealers and private sellers. What specifically are you looking for?

:-)
Before starting this thread I tried to do that about 10 times. The 10 error messages I got weren't very helpful. But now I've learned that I have to upgrade my membership, which I'm about to try.
But never mind a bit of hopefully temporary frustration with rennlist, thanks very much for the very complete and helpful post!
A 996 Targa with a manual transmission, and an interior in beige, brown, cognac, or cinnamon (or a similar color, if I've missed any). Ideally less than 60k miles. In good condition, with a good history. If anyone out there has one and wants to sell, please send me a PM!
I am almost positive that there was not a 996 targa 4 or 4s.
Targas are rare. That's a really specific combo that probably only exist in limited numbers. Good luck with the search!
996.2 then. How much do you want to spend? You will be in the $30k range. 4 candidates listed on car soup, $28k to $34k, but don't match your specifics.

There was no 4wd 996 Targa, unless perhaps someone approached Porsche Exclusive with a very large check book. It seems everyone wanted one - b/c everyone thought the C4S was the best normal 996 - so with the 997 Targa, Porsche only made it with 4wd. Which is a shame, since not everyone thought the C4 and C4S were the best normal 997s ...
Rustymon's dad is undoubtedly looking for a 997.
