Now, I've always used coat hangers to pull out stock stereo's in the past, but obviously that isn't possible with the flat slots on the CDR.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No - I don't mean 'go pay somebody to remove it with your credit card'. I've been sitting on a stereo in my garage for about 6 months now, after pulling it out of my defunct truck. Given that anything is better than the CDR-220 (with broken *****) in my '02 cab, I figured it was time to pull out the CDR-220 and install the new one. Now, I've always used coat hangers to pull out stock stereo's in the past, but obviously that isn't possible with the flat slots on the CDR. I was surprised I couldn't find another discussion topic that addressed this. Anyways, I cut a CC into two pieces approximately the size of the removal keys, measuring so they just fit in the slots on the deck. I had to cut that half circle on the front of them in order for them to fit, but after some finagling they went in. FjyNA24.jpg I used 2 flat head screw drivers to carefully pry the stereo forward and voila - it was out. BhXO52N.jpg BTW - this 'hack' isn't about saving the 3 dollars on the removal keys; it's about my impatience to order them and wait for shipping.

POST 2Original post

Nicely done, very inventive and obviously successful! And yeah, I get it about the shipping lag....that kills me too sometimes!

Now THAT's dedication.

POST 4Original post

Walmart has them in stock in the automotive stereo section. But nice ingenuity!

POST 5Original post

Nice solution, plus you won't be using your credit cards anytime soon.

POST 6Original post

Got my keys off eBay for like $2. Nice work though.

POST 7Original post

Impressive! Well done! Anyone can buy something on eBay at a store but not many can make a tool when needed.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I figured others should know this is possible. I can't be the only other poor planner out there. Wish I had known that Walmart carried them though - that's another good solution.
