Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just had to buy a ton of cores to get crankshafts from, because of that I have an abundancy of good used heads that have hot pressure checked ok.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2000 with 121k miles just developed an intermix problem with coolant and oil both contaminated. I suspect a cracked head and I am planning to tear down the motor in my garage. Anyone know if it is possible to remove both heads with the motor in the car?
It might be possible but. Hardly worth the trouble. You can drop the engine is a few hours (I know because I did it) and that time will be offset in how long it would take to remove the heads with the engine it the car. Also if you have the intermix in both the oil and the coolant you are going to need to get ll the oil and coolant out of the engine and the cooling system. Much easier to do with the engine out. Been there done that!
Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like removing the heads can be done with the engine in the car but I would imagine its not worth the hassle. I'm hopeful it's just the 1-3 head that is cracked. I'm planning on pulling both heads for inspection. Jake, are you seeing many cracks on the opposing heads on 2000 MY cars? Also, for crack repair is Costa Mesa R&D a good choice. Anyone know of any other machine shops that provide a proper fix ( assuming the heads are fixable of course). Thanks!
We see cracks from time to time in all the heads.. I have not seen a crack from an 08,(yet) and have never seen a 97 Boxster head crack. All the others we see fairly routinely, BUT no year is worse than 2000.
I just had to buy a ton of cores to get crankshafts from, because of that I have an abundancy of good used heads that have hot pressure checked ok. Might be cheaper than fixing yours, IF it is repairable.
I havent reached any conclusions yet about the source of the intermix. But from all the information I have gathered so far it seems that the likely place to start looking is the 1-3 head. The engine was running fine with no smoking whatsoever. This leads me to believe that its not a cracked cylinder. It also never overheated ( at least in the short time that I've owned it). It seems unlikely that both heads cracked at the same time, but who knows what I will find. I plan to check both heads for cracks.
