Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Check all fluid levels and the battery will need to be replaced/charged.
Leading evidence: 'Replace /charged' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fluid levels and the battery will need' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Next I would run it up to operating temp and then replace the oil and inspect the oil filter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
It has been a few years since my last post. My 1999 996 C2 has been parked for over two years. I parked it due what sounded like a lifter tick. I had missed a lot of work due to an injury and had hard financial times. I caught up and am now ready to fix the car. Prior to parking it I changed the external chain tensioners and the tick remained, I did not not drive it due to frustration and lack of $$. I would assume the oil although fresh when parked should it be changed. The car was parked for 7 months and began to tick when I was finally able to drive again. I have done a lot of research on the ticking issue and want to try a few things before taking it to a shop for repair. But first I need to fire it up. I know I should taken steps prior to the long storage but I had far more pressing matters after 7 months with med bills and no income. Where should I start?
I would drain out the tank of gas and refill. Check all fluid levels and the battery will need to be replaced/charged. I would then pull the fuel pump fuse and crank until oil pressure is present on the gauge. Next I would run it up to operating temp and then replace the oil and inspect the oil filter.
Ok sound good. I have already drained the tank for fresh fuel and now I need to figure out how get rid of the old fuel. I had considered fresh oil for the start up as I am not sure how much the oil breaks down sitting in the engine. I did dissect the oil filter when doing the tensioners and found no debris under a magnifying glass although I will do it again. Thank a bunch for the help
I put some gas stabilizer in the old gas and add it to my other cars/lawnmowers etc. a couple of gallons at a time. I am assuming you filtered the gas when you drained it, if not filter it before adding to anything else.
Thanks Seeeu911 - shattered left foot 7 screws two operations no more motor bikes my knee dragging days are over. How about Lewis in Malaysia.
And Adker - thanks for the reply - As for the additive in the oil, there are a few products out there and I have also read adding some ATF can help un-stick the lifters any suggestions on the right additive.
DTMiller - bonfire sounds good for the fuel or I could put it in my neighbors Corvette LOL- looks like you name your cars - My wife has named mine Nina - No offense to the Vet guys out there.
Mine ticked the first few times I drove it both times it sat undriven for several months. After I drove it for a few hours the ticking lifter returned to normal operation.
