Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Fixed my horn this weekend. The horn button stopped working. Had to Dremel off one of the airbag screws. Replaced both horns, airbag bracket (horn button), and put on a steering wheel with better leather.
Also checked all of the fuses. None were blown. I'm going to start replacing sending units and see if the gauges come back to life.
11K ! that is a steal. Boxsters run in the range. The higher mileage may have driven that price, but if the engine was well taken care of you will have many more years of enjoyment. Considering how you jumped into the horn issue you seem like a DIY kind of a guy.. you'll find lots of help here. How does the interior look ?
For the price I'm very happy with the interior. It's full leather. A few deep scratches on the seat backs and rear seats but no rips or tears. The guy that did the PPI said that the driver seat bolster had need replaced. Looks good.
Yes I'm a DIY guy. Plan on doing oil change, transmission fluid change, and spark plugs next month. Then installing new oil pressure and coolant temp senders to see if I can fix the broken gauges
Thanks!
so i had a few gauges that were not working (fuel, external temp, coolant temp, and oil pressure). not sure what the problem was. Replaced the external temp sensor first because it was the easiest and cheapest. no effect. so i thought it's either the instrument cluster or a short. I found an instrument cluster and craigslist, plugged it in, and all my gauges came back! it's nice having a working fuel gauge (and oil pressure and coolant temp).
will be bringing the car to the mechanic on Fri for a coolant flush, power steering flush, fuel filter change, and to re-seal the oil pan.
great car
Brian
Picked up a set of sport classic II wheels with continental tires from eBay for $500. Need to change out the c4 center caps though.
Just had coolant changed, fuel filter, re-sealed oil pan, changed power steering fluid

I agree! I have a black Cab. I put on the smoked side markers -- didn't look right. The pumpkins are fine with black.
Here's my little tip for new Cab owners that will save you countless hours over the life of your car -- resist the temptation to spray your convertible top with water repellant (303 etc..). Instead, get a plastic cup and a 2-inch, cheapo paint brush and just brush the stuff on. You'll will get better coverage an no overspray.
2 other top-tips --- get a classic clothes lint brush (the red ones) to clean any fibers etc that may stick to the top. The sticky roller cleaners are kind of bad news -- you'll see they pull too much black fiber from the top itself.
When you dry the top with a chamois or even the best drying towel or microfiber, you will get a fiber trail. The worse the fabric, the worse the trail. A 5 second blast with the leaf blower at low speed does a great job drying with no trail.
I like the orange ones. I like the contrast.
Thanks for the top tips. I've used a lint brush. But won't the paint brush leave bristles on the top?
And do you spray the paint brush with the water repellant or is there another water repellant that you can dip the paint brush into?
Thanks!
Brian
Did some maintenance today. Replaced transmission fluid with porsche brand, replaced spark plugs, coils, brake fluid. Also added gt3 brake cooling ducts.
Decided to go with the smoke corner markers.
Put it up on jack stands for the first time and dropped the mufflers to access the spark plugs
Had a fun day

You might want to pull your instrument cluster and make sure all of the connectors are properly seated. Seems like a good possibly that one connector is not fully engaged and causing your gauges to not work.
Congrats! What a great price! Enjoy.
Car now has 80,500 miles listed. But Milage is recorded each year at state inspection, so next year I'll have and "exception" because I went from 130k to 80k
Great-looking car! Is the paint as good up close as it looks in the pix? As said above, that price is excellent... leaves plenty of room to fix the items. Congrats!
For those that like to track and follow 996 repairs and repair costs
Engine started making a rattling sound.
Took it in to have it looked at. Bad water pump. Also had 2 tensionors, a pully, the thermostat, and accessory drive belt replaced.
Car has approx 132k miles on it. Shop said the water pump on the car was not original.
Cost $1,400
Just replaced the motor mounts with rein brand. $180
Also replaced one of the underbody plastic trays that was all torn up (about $80)
Next will be passenger side radiator fan (it's making a high pitched noise)
Replaced my passenger side radiator fan ($200), front brake discs and pads ($135), and added a front strut tower brace ($125).
I Also installed 997 clutch and brake pedal covers, and a metal dead pedal cover.
And conditioned the leather seats.
Busy weekend
