Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've checked the coolant, it's a little low (half inch below min) so would this account for the temperature, or are these two symptoms indicative of some huge problem lurking?
Leading evidence: 'Check coolant' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check coolant' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Potentially related, I've noticed that the temperature is running a bit higher than I'm accustomed to, up by maybe 15-20 degrees, not significant, but noticeable.

dont get scared by it, maybe you can run a while and it will make itself easier to find
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So it has happened recently that I have gotten a medium-pitched squeak seemingly coming from the engine area, lasting only about half a second, and it's only happened 3 times (all in the last 2 days) the first time while engine braking to a stop, and the second two times during leisurely acceleration. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Well, after some searching, I found the Air/Oil separator problem diagnosis, started it up, and sure enough, engine sputters with the oil fill cap off, and there's suction (and some hissing) coming from the fill. What am I looking at, first of all in terms of repair feasibility, and if it's not a relatively easy fix, what's the damage going to be at a shop?
do a search on AOS - there are plenty of us who have done them. PM me if you want info on it. ALSO I would rule out other things, I chased a SQUEAL for a month and it turned out than a tranny oil change fixed my problem ?????
dont get scared by it, maybe you can run a while and it will make itself easier to find
Or idle pulley (prone to squeak) or throw out bearing/clutch assy
The aos has been known to cause squeak too. If it is the culprit, letting it go a while while you pin it down should not hurt anything IMO
I got under my car with it running and issolated it once it got more regular at start up
The combination of lost coolant, reduced cooling efficiency, and a squeak all seem to point this direction to me. Take a look to see if you have any marks of dried coolant in the area.
