Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What a different season this year. The new cars have really been a great equalizer. Interesting seeing many rookies in the points. Although, I'd like to see Ferrari get back on the top step.

+1 I'm also an F1 fan and I agree with everything you said(even the part about Ferrari winning), however the new cars sound weak and the "new" cars are about 10 sec a lap(at KL) slower than the cars of 10 yrs ago...I thought F1 was the pinnacle of motorsports??? How can you be the pinnacle of motorsports and regress??? This green BS is killing F1 IMHO...the cars should be V12 powered beasts screaming at 21,000 RPM and lapping faster than the monsters of 10 yrs ago!

+F1... Hate the lack of engine, for the price of a good ticket and lack presence i'd rather just go to more drag races and motogp, actually motogp engines have more presence.

POST 4Original post

Renault was the driving partner in the move to the V6 engine. F1 would not survive with only 2 engine mfgs and they insisted on an engine that is relevant development to their production road cars. IMHO this V6 hurts the sport. However..tire changes are an improvement .. These races are tight with much passing and competition, loving that ! I hated the Vettel parades. I'm ecstatic to see the old guard tick over with new blood. I was so pumped that Massa did not move over ! Very excited for this 2014 season.

POST 5Original post

It's very exciting, despite the new engines. I miss the sound of the old V8 and V10 cars. I'm hoping to go to the US Grand Prix in Austin again this year.

POST 6Original post

I am not in favor of the new spec. I think that the cars sound flat and uninspired, but that's the least of it. I would not want to be a competitor, team member or trackside flag marshal with the bajillion watt battery pack the cars now carry. It could overheat (and it's below the fuel cell), or perhaps discharge to ground through someone. Despite precautions, someone, somewhere is going to be badly injured or killed by this contraption. And acting as if F1 is "green" is ludicrous. The fuel they burn on-track is miniscule compared to the oceans of Jet-A that fly them about, and the river of diesel and gasoline that move teams and equipment about on land. On the plus side, less aero and lots of torque bring snap-oversteer back, and that's enjoyable to watch.

POST 7Original post

Really sad about the quieter engines as well! The fuel rationing has made it even worse with the drivers shifting at even lower RPM's than the maximum allowed in order to save fuel. As others, I am thrilled that we have stopped the Vettel parade for now but Red Bull is not sitting around and I imagine that they will creep back up sooner rather than later. Ferrari is the big disappointment so far for many of us and they seem to need a minor miracle to catch up at this point. Pete

POST 8Original post

F1 should be a sprint race, just like Moto GP. One hour race, no rules except displacement. Any tires you want. Any aero you want, even variable wings at anywhere on the course. Any traction control you want. Want to pit, no problem, but you will lose.

POST 9Original post

I can live with the not-so-awesome sound, and I think Renault will get their engines straightened out in a few more races so the results won't be so lopsided. But having all the races come down to who engineers the best fuel and tire management strategy sucks...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This season is quite different. It appears the cars are faster than they are allowed to go. With fuel flow/economy, tire management and the overall fear of reliability, it seems the teams teams/drivers are holding back. The sound, really does stink too. I heard a brief interview with Bernie and appears to be a big issue with race promoters. I wouldn't expect some changes. Hopefully Kimi can come to grips with that Ferrari. I love that guy. He's a piece of work.

POST 11Original post

Technical changes come and go in F-1. Teams rise and fall over time. At the present time, its nice seeing Team Williams back in the fray. Fear not, Renault will figure things out and Ferrari, especially The Kimster, will bounce back. relinuca

POST 12Original post

I am enjoying it so far. I do like how everything has really stirred the pot. I do think the fuel economy thing sucks and I do also feel that f1 should be the pinnacle of speed, not technology. I dont give to ****s if they are doing it with less fuel and blah blah. I want to see the fastest cars in the world rip around a circle. I will still continue to follow it because it is still fascinating

POST 15Original post

i've been a f1 fan since i remember but i hate that is no more about who's the best driver or the best car,is who have the better engineers race managers

POST 17Original post

F1 and MotoGP fan here! I do miss the screaming sound of previous engines, but so far this year, I am enjoying it. Last year I gave up watching the races since there was hardly any passing and Vettel pretty much led the races. This year, it is good to see new guys in the top 10. I just read that Redbull has threatened to dump renault engines if they do not improve performance/reliability. Should be a good year to watch... Cheers, -K

Just put Fister D mufflers and Orange cap mod on the cars to bring back the sound... I kid I kid....

POST 20Original post

Was in Sepang for qualifying and the cars do sound better in person. Was not a fan of them on TV, not saying I'm a fan now, but not AS bad as I thought. That said they don't sound like F1. You can be right at the fence and you don't have to cover your ears. You don't feel them in your chest anymore. They seem very fast and like they are a handful, although it was wet the entire time. Can post some pics I took with my iphone... Now the 991 Cup cars - holy crap do they look cool and sound great! Got some great pics and I think vids of them. The other support races were similar to what you might see at a NASA event, let alone an SCCA Majors race. Pretty cool stuff. Where else will you see a Csports racer, Radical, Lotus 711, Ferrari 458's, Lambo's, GT3 cup cars AND a lone Australian Super V8 car on the same grid. Pretty epic. Sorry for the tangent. Back on point, the other thing that bugs me is the drivers. What happened to the ego's the useless bragging. yeah we are starting 6th, but we are going to win this thing. Now it's, "well yes we're on pole, but it's going to be tough, 3rd would be a better place to start with" The most aggressive thing any of them say, is, our chances are good today. They don't even say chances for a finish.
