This is not a probability of success.

The reasons I am looking for one is 1)lower weight in the roof, 2) more headroom for a helmet if I wanted to autocross, 3) room for a full GT3 cage since I'm big on safety even in street use, 4) I'd never use the sunroof even if I had one, and 5) I've heard the sunroof delete models trade at a discount in the secondary market.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems almost impossible to find sunroof delete carrera 2's. I know that Ed Newman has one, but other than him, I rarely see them on the board here, and any dealers I've talked to or cars I've seen for sale, forget about it! What is the best way to search for sunroof delete cars that exist, without having to custom spec a new one from a dealer and having to put down a large deposit.

POST 2Original post

They're hard to find because very few are ordered that way, and the dealers try and talk customers out of them. Problems are harder resale and apparently the line has to be shut down at Stuttgart to build one. Good luck in your search. I don't think the weight savings is significant on a street car. My helmet clears just fine with std seats (I'm 6'). With GT3 seats there is even more clearance. There is a guy (Spider) on Funcars who just traded his Green '99-01 C4 w/o sunroof. I think he traded to a dealer in Minnesota. Anyway, the car was never driven hard (I think he said never saw anything above 4500rpm??).

POST 3Original post

My 2000 C2 does not have a sunroof, I would try Greg at http://jenkinsautosales.com/. He can find you almost anything you want.

POST 4Original post

In Europe, the sunroof is a 1,000 option on the Turbo (dont know about the C2/C4S). Plus, our weather isnt always as cooperative as it is in some parts of North America. Consequently, there are many more cars in Europe without a sunroof (including my own). So I imagine that it isnt correct to say that they need to shut down the line to make a non-sunroof car. Also, for me, not having a sunroof makes a big difference when I am wearing a helmet. In this thread Kyopo says that it is *really* heavy to have the sunroof panel, sunroof, motor, etc compared to just the no-sunroof panel: Topic: GT3 conversion Stephen

POST 5Original post

I'll chime in a little... I was told that the difference is around 34 lbs. Not alot, but the roof is a little stiffer too. This plus the look sold it for me... the car looks so different w/ no hole up there.

POST 6Original post

Hey, 34lbs is quite a bit especially when it's high up above the center of gravity. I tried to find a C2 without a sunroof here too, but it was too hard. If you want to go through the trouble, you could always get the sunroof removed. If you're just doing it for looks, you can just remove the headliner and structural supports for the sunroof and the motor. Have a body shop weld the sunroof in permanently and repaint. Then get the no-sunroof headliner installed and you're set. However if you want to actually redo the sunroof panel the right way, it's a lot of work as both front/rear windshields need to be removed, the old roof panel drilled out and the new one welded in. Aside from the labor, here's some of the costs for the parts: No-sunroof panel $151 Headiner (lthrtte)$100-ish (suede) $851 nice but more than I wanted to spend Windshield trims $100

Hey FWing, What's up with that avatar? What does that mean?

POST 8Original post

If you don't mind the wait for an ordered car, last year, Niello Porsche in Sacramento, CA took my order for a sunroof and model designation delete car, in Guards Red, without PSM. While my salesman, Don Shaw pointed out that those were all unfavored options, once he understood that I knew what I wanted, he took and delivered the order on only a handshake, at less than MSRP and without having to make a downpayment.
