Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello there,
I just received my PSS9 kit for my 996 C2 and I'm very excited about installing it this Saturday. I've done spring and strut replacements before with other cars but not so with P-cars. Does anyone know of any DIY that exists anywhere on the web? I've seen the DIY for 993s but was not sure what the differences are. Also for those who may have PSS9s installed I would like to know measurements for properly achieving the right height or at least a starting point. Any hints on how to best do the install is appreciated.
When I'm done I'll be happy to report on the ride but also document the steps with the installation.
thanks,
Ed
I would have someone else install them, or if you must install them and then take it immediately to a great alignment place and have it properly corner balanced and adjusted! You should also set them up nice with the alignment ala gt3 specs, but a bit under. Make sure you check your tire pressures and sit in the car when doing it for the fun!
SPR,
My brother and I completed the install in about 5 hours. We had to redo one side twice because we forgot to install the spring perch so it could have been done in 4.5 hours.
I'll post pictures of the install and before and after shots of my car shortly. I currently have the damping setting at 7 (9 soft, 1 firm)) and I must say the ride is slightly firmer than stock.
Ed,
Just curious as a 993 owner, was the suspension system installation very different for the 996 compared to the 993 (given the 993 install pictures you saw)?
Since you're in the bay area, I'd let Custom Alignment do the alignment work. They understand what needs to be done since they work on Porsches all the time and have race-cars in there as well.
Did you get any new sway bars on the car as well?
Thanks,
*****
*****,
Quite frankly after reviewing the 993 DIY I thought it would take my brother and I at least 8 hours but all we had to do was remove sway bar link, loosen/remove top and bottom strut mount, jiggle it loose and it was done. Spring compressor was not even required to remove the top mount shock washer. My brother found a trick of removing the front strut from the suspension housing that saved us quite a bit of time - no hammer required. We were however challenged by not having a 21mm open socket but we somehow managed to loosen that bolt with vice-grip and allen wrench. I've got pictures of before and after to share with this forum but I can't seem to figure out how to post images in the message body with just cutting and pasting. Help is appreciated.
I drove the car for 30 miles and noticed no noise from the suspension system. The adjustable damping is simply worth every penny.
Nice I can't wait to see pics! I like doing diy stuff also, but I would definitely have the car corner balanced and set up agressively. The ride will definitely be harder than stock, and a bit more than eur and us m030, but it rails sooo hard, that who cares? You should also make sure about your tire pressure when you have the car aligned, do it cold! I set mine at stock as I have a c2 with 295's rear. I experimented with lowering the pressures, but honestly the way I have the alignment set, it corners best at stock pressure, how weird? 36/44. Good luck I am jealous. Are you going to do the gt3 sway bars with the drop links later? I would!
Did you also change the sway bars? I am doing it with the GT3 bars and was wondering if you had done the same. Would you mind sending some pics or instruction tips?
TIA
JM
