Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, BMW owner, now turned Porsche owner. Doing minor mods to it like Turbo front lip, K&N intake, OEM clear reflectors, rear wiper delete, slilver and black center caps and hood crest.

POST 2Original post

I think so, but as long as you are happy that's all that matters in the end. Your C4S is a really sharp car and I think you will love the Tiptronic option (I'm a Tip fan w/ 2 myself!)

Thanks, I appreciate that. Honestly, I did some research on these cars and thought I was getting a fair price. I checked NADA and they had dealer retail of $50.8 and trade-in of $44k. I guess I was a sucker basing my decision off that. I really didn't check the forums until after I bought the car to see what the true going rates were. I was also going off Autotrader adds like this: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false It is nice that it is the last year of the 996. They switched MY to the 997's and was told that very few 05 996 C4S's were made as a result. That certainly can't hurt the value of the car.

POST 4Original post

Hey hey, congratulations! I bought my CPO 2004 C4S from Park Place Porsche in Dallas a couple of years ago, and it was Atlas Grey too! Unfortunately, I paid $52k for it back then! Then again, it had only 16k miles when I bought it. Did you ask your salesguy to give you a tour of the service area and the parking garage that houses alot of their inventory? Pretty impressive... Michael.

Hey Michael, I didn't actually. I'll check that out next time I'm there. Thanks. Sounds cool!

POST 6Original post

Welcome, great looking car, great price! for the record, dealer pics dont actually count towards your "post a pic of your car" obligation Again, welcome! (PS - skip the K&N airfilter.....seriously!!)

POST 7Original post

I'd say you got a very decent deal. Welcome to the Porsche club.

POST 8Original post

Welcome. I also came from 335i to 05 996 C4S. Couldn't be happier as I'm sure you'll be too. Good luck.

POST 9Original post

Looks like you did well. But in reality, it's only important if you are happy with the car and the price you paid regardless of the amount. These purchases are based on emotion rather than necessity and the price you pay is a reflection of preceived value. Enjoy it!

POST 11Original post

OrientBlue, how did you choose the 996 C4S over the 997 standard or S models? I'm in the same search. Was price alone the deciding factor? My search is between an older C4S 2002, and a base model 997. Both are wonderful cars. The C4S is actually $10 less expensive. I'm totally stuck...I guess it's not a bad problem to have, but would love to hear your deciding factors.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Thanks for being so welcoming. I came from an 08 335 coupe that was chipped with about 400hp. C4S is a TOTALLY different car. It's taking some getting used to. Definitely more "race" than the BMW ever was. I do miss the twin turbo power of the BMW though. Also, I did order the K&N intake and not just the filter. I'll be putting a dry or synthetic filter on it so I can avoid the MAF issues like some are having with the oiled filter. Got the intake new for $250, so I'm gonna give it a shot. I really wanted the EVOMS one but $600 for an intake without carbon is crazy! Welcome to Porsche Land I guess...where everything is twice what BMW parts were which were twice what everything else was. lol MKenyon: Only Tip 06 997's available were C2S Cabs. As a result they were all mid 50's. I LOVE the 997's because of the retro look. I just couldn't live with a cab and I couldn't justify the $15k higher price. If I had the cash I would have absolutely bought one but C4S/C2S Tip Coupes in my area were impossible to find. So yes, price alone was the deciding factor for me. Good luck in your search. I just put on my baysonr replica 996 Turbo front lip from eBay tonight. I did considerable research on these and it proved to be a quality piece. I couldn't justify $450 for a small black piece of plastic. $130 won out and worked out well for me. My clear reflectors, silver and black center caps, bumper plugs, rear windshield wiper delete plug all come tomorrow so those should add a nice touch!

POST 13Original post

You sound like a man on a mission with the mods! Actually reminds me of the detailed list of items I had when I purchased my Pcars. My wife thought I was nuts working through a 20+ item punchlist I wanted addressed on a perfectly beautiful car as is. Have fun!

POST 14Original post

ah yes..... nice pics!.... a bit small though.

POST 15Original post

Congrats on a outstanding car! And it's true, the wiper delete is a very good idea! I am so happy mine didn't come with one....

I think you can actually blow them up by clicking on them, but don't worry, I'll fix that! Just waiting to get all the mods and get them on the car. Then I'll take some pics. I really wanted to do the 997 airbox intake mod but they were so hard to find used and about $400 new for the lid and the bracket. It definitely classes up the engine bay. Thank you very much!

POST 19Original post

Classic BMW's Cars and Coffee is this Sat, you should bring out your new ride... good thing I'll miss it because your C4S will make me miss Atlas Grey... /m

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Definitely going to try to make it. I try to go as often as possible. It's really getting to be a CRAZY big show. Although I'll miss not being there in my BMW. I'd just drop it off and have it washed when I was at the show. No need to worry about parking and I could roll out of there in a clean car. It was a win/win. lol

POST 22Original post

Nice pick with the C4S, but, then again, I'm biased. Welcome!
