Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. A friend of mine is having a difficult time fitting in a new 996 series. He is 6'4", which should not be a problem in itself, but he has very long legs and a shot torso, so his knees cannot find a place to clear. In the old days, you could bolt the 911's seat rails back to the next set of holes and, if need be, put a spacer on the steering wheel to compensate. Apparently, that isn't possible now with the 996. Anyone have some seat-back ideas or remedies I can forward? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Regards, Bob Prosser alt email: [email removed]

POST 2Original post

I had this problem when I put my DAS Sport roll bar in. i lost a few inches of seat travel. I had scheduled surgery to to have about 2" cut out of my shin bones, when I decided to install GT3 seats instead. Now I sit just a little higher than in the stock seat. I'm trying to use the same appointment to have a vertebra or two removed, but they want me to make a new appointment. anyway, I happen to have a stock 996 seat in my kitchen, and it really doesn't look like you can do anything with the stock rails. It might be worth a look on Brey Krause' web site.

POST 3Original post

I'm 6'5", with long legs. I fit pretty well, but the trick is to keep the seat bottom flat (no tilt back), as far back as it goes, and lean the seat back farther than you would think is comfortable. It works really well, but you do have to stretch to keep your hands on the wheel. I have a 4-spoke wheel, and can tell that a 3-spoke (with more padding) would be much more comfortable, since you'll have to grip a bit tighter when you're further away. The 996 is the first convertible (and one of the only coupes) that I fit comfortably in. This is because the rake of the window isn't as extreme as many 2-doors, and keeps your field of vision through the glass (instead of over the windshield). Hope this helps...?

POST 4Original post

You certainly want to have the steering wheel extended as far out as it will go. Unfortunately, there are only the four mounting holes for the seat

POST 5Original post

Try the GT3 center console delete for additional knee room. <img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/Sloth996/GT3console.sized.jpg" alt=" - " /> I am 6'4" and found that the stock console stuck me in the side of the leg. I ordered mine from Suncoast Porsche in Sarasota.

POST 6Original post

Could someone explain the BK braces and how they work? I also have long legs and my knees hit the steering wheel because the seats do not go back far enough. In addition, it is disappointing that porsche does not offer a steering wheel with adjustable rake ... I am waiting for 04 GT3 and would like to know if others out there have solved this problem definitively. I have found references to changing steering wheels to a momo and adding an extension .. does this compromise the visibility of the instrument cluster? What about actually moving the seats back? Is this possible with the BK braces? Will I need to change the sport seats that come with the GT3 (apparently the euro-spec sport seats are not coming to the US) Any advice and insight appreciated. I was bummed when I tried a 996TT and found that it would probably not be comfortable for daily use, which I require.
