Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just received a v1 as a gift. the unit is slightly large and would need to be hardwired near the rear view mirror. I was thinking about trading for a solo. no cord and a smaller unit. How inferior is the solo? Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

V1 = 94; Solo II = 86. I just made that up, but it's hard to say how inferior the Solo II is to the V1. V1 is top notch from what I read, but maybe overkill for me (I'm not a big fish). The new Solo II seems much improved (at least by their own hype) over the one I bought years ago. I'm convinced it's the best battery powered unit available, but I don't think any battery powered unit can approach the sensitivity of the V1. As you suggest, the attractions to the Solo (other than lower price) are its small size and no-wire convienence. If I were to buy a new unit, I'd buy the Solo II. Like I said, I'm not a big fish, so rarely even feel the need for a radar detector.

POST 3Original post

I do not have a Solo II but have owned every detector that CM has made. I got a V1 and wired it to the car and it is vastly superior to any CM product I have owned. The only negitive is that in town it goes off all the time. On the highway, it's spectacular. Good luck. Roy

POST 4Original post

The solo II is a nice looking unit, great features BUT the range is much less than the 8500 and V1, based on the power source. Escort does not publish the comps but the sales people will tell you that the Solo II is a GREAT CORDLESS unit...but if you drive alot and the cord is not the issue, definitely buy the 8500. If you are interested in selling the V1, send me a PM.

POST 5Original post

The V1 is superior to all others, despite the hype on that radartest.com crap. Wireless also cuts range/power. Like condoms, correct and consistent use of the V1 will offer excellent protection. Jason
