Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well the 2003 Subie WRX STI has finally come here and I saw it tonite but couldnt have the time enough to try it.. The sound of the engine was audible from about a mile away as the car was approaching my residence.. Mozart couldnt have produced a better symphony. The looks of the car is definitely Hulk muscular. The interior is not impressive but the necessary short shifter, STI recaro seats, steering whell position and instrumentation just about right. The suspension is so firm you cant make the car bounce a single millimiter.. From the couple of guys who were riding the beast and the way I could hear the gear change as the car was coming by, I am sure this car is a definite kick a** for my carrera C2.. Tomorrow might be a duel but the owner is already a race driver (mille miglia smthg..) and owns a Carrera Turbo back home.. At least I have competition! Waz 996 C2 99 getting ready for a** handing over!

POST 2Original post

Don't worry Waz, its top speed is only 244Km/h no problem for you on the nigerian highways <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

POST 4Original post

Hey Waz.. have you played with the STI yet?? love to know wut you think of it.. and how is the acceleration compared to a 996

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys guys guys,,,, Car Magazine March 2003 page 78, STI WRX test... 0-62 in 4.6sec power is 300hp I'd hate to know what the quarter mile is compared to my megre C2.. Quotes: '..the STI works not because it is loud and aggressive, but because aggression is the by-product of serious speed. Beleive it..' '..as soon as you see the new subaru STI you know it's going to be a loud, pissed-off young man, railing against more genteel social constraints with showy and pointless diplays of juvenile behaviour. it prbably has body piercings and smokes extra-strong ****. this car watches nothing but MTV and plays trash metal on the stereo loud enough to collapse the delicate parts of your ears..'' Now i am OFFICALLY scared!! Spectra i shall try it and relay my remorse to you indeed! Waz

POST 6Original post

Wait a minute, the european version of the 2003 WRX Sti only has 265HP! (and the other version avalilable is the regular WRX with 225Hp). What version is that with 300HP? If the WRX STi your facing is this 300HP version, not the 265HP version, then you a going to get a run for your money <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Still you should advantage him in top speed and brakes, handling being similar unless the surface is slippery. Go Waz! Go Waz! Go Waz!... <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

POST 7Original post

Ok, I did some research, it seems that 300HP Sti has a 2.5l Turbo engine exclusive to the US market, while the other Sti's have the standard 2.0 Turbo engine with 265HP. Did the guy with the Sti import it from the US, because otherwise its probably the 265HP 2.0 engine This is one of the sources I checked (5th paragraph) <a href="http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/impreza_wrx_sti.asp" target="_blank">http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/impreza_wrx_sti.asp</a>

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

INTERESTING.. Carlos the UK version (it's a right hand drive you can see it clearly in CAR magazine) is 300bhp. They tested it on UK grounds (some Kielder Forest). And it's a 1994cc dohc 16v turbo four. Looks like UK is similar in hp but not in displacement.. Well, the owner here is italian and he said he got it from italy (it's a LHD). Waz

POST 9Original post

Well, now I'm really confused <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> If its from Italy there is a good chance its like the one here in Spain...265HP

POST 10Original post

Ok, some more research My italian is a little rusty <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> but seems like the italian version is the 2.0l with 265HP <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" /> Sources (Italian sites): <a href="http://www.infomotori.com/a_49_IT_417_11.html" target="_blank">Infomotori - italian site (english version)</a> <a href="http://www.topwheels.com/newsview.cfm?id=53" target="_blank">http://www.topwheels.com/newsview.cfm?id=53</a> <a href="http://simpatico.autostart.it/news/subaru/sti.asp" target="_blank">http://simpatico.autostart.it/news/subaru/sti.asp</a> The first one mentions the UK version is also 265HP

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Being the italian show off he is, he told me he asked STI italy to upgrade his car to 350hp.. and that STI refused to give him street homologation and that he didnt mind since he was exporting it here.. that his car upgrade ONLY cost him 50,000 euros, that he is only one step below of having a groupA rally machine.. My carrera has lost power trumendously due to the fuel pump problem, it is whinning now seriously high. It's even barely going above 5k rpm. I've sent it for a repair and i hope i'll find an equivalent bosh here.. Once my car is back to normal, it will be the only benchmark to test the integrity of the bonzai harakiri blended with italian bull$*@@ and ravioli stew along with the farting tenor of the 6in (is it?) exhaust.. Waz

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK OK.. fadi, please am still waiting for your Bosch price query, they have the same one for the carrera and will cost 30% of the dealers'.. Otherwise you pay the difference! Waz Reminder: 996 C2 99 6sp. 3.4L

POST 17Original post

I watch the Subaru site i-club and the STi is a serious weapon. 300hp 300lbs/torque 2.5 ltr (ROW gets 2.0) AWD with cockpit adjustable diffs. Recaros Many other goodies... Price hasn't been officially released yet but it is expected to come in between 30 and 35K. It's a great deal and I have a deposit on the first one at my local dealer, but since I just got my '03 C4S I think I shot my wad for a while...

POST 18Original post

Guys, The Sti CAR Magazine tested had the optional Prodrive Performance Pack, which boosts HP from 261 to 300 with a revised ECU. The US car should be equal to the euro Sti with the PPP.

POST 19Original post

Thanks for the clarification e6tme. Personally I would take the Lancer with 280HP officially due to Jap laws but actual 320HP. Now if its bang for the buck then I'd take a Caterham 7 R500: <img src="http://autozine.kyul.net/Car_Photo/Caterham/R500.jpg" alt=" - " /> - 460Kg (1000lbs) - 230HP - 0 to 60mph in 3.4secs It will lap Nurburgring in 7:56 with just 230HP, faster than the GT3 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> but don't expect A/C or even a windshield <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Guys, The amazing thing about these WRX's is their ability to handle amazing modifications (though longevity may become an issue). Just a few weekends ago I went for a drive (as a passenger) in a 2003 WRX (non STi), that had been severely modified (cost of mods still very cheap compared to Porsche mods). Car was properly dynoed at 330bhp at the rear wheels and went like stink. What is amazing is the way that car can go around corners, almost avoiding all laws of physics....
