Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What have you done and was it worth it. Do you find that the desired affect was achieved, and did it improve the car any.

POST 2Original post

Added a switch so I could lockout the A/C compressor completely during the winter months. Eliminates the propensity for the windshield/windows to fog over the morning after using the climate control (with A/C active) the previous day and immediately after using the defog/demist mode.

POST 3Original post

OK. Clear side markers. I though it would distinguish my car, until I found out EVERYBODY replaced theirs with clear markers as well. Replaced CD tray with a bin. Now my wife knows just where to put her spare lipstick and facial tissues. Fire extinguisher and mount on front of passenger seat. Since this is where my wife usually puts her purse when she rides. She now enjoys sticking all the things that she would otherwise put in her purse in all the available cubby holes and pockets in the car instead. Tried to apply wax one day, and ended up appying rouge instead. Colored Porsche crests for the wheels. Sometimes I like the distinguished look of the C4S caps, so I pop those back in. Then I feel like a little more color, so I pop the crests in. Then pop in, pop out, pop in, pop out. Maybe I'll just leave them all out. Now THAT should be unique. High temp brake fluid. Is it worth it? I dunno. I didn't have fade before with the stock fluid while the car sat in the garage. But, it seemed like a good idea, and gave me something to do with the car aside from waxing and washing it and covering it with the car cover. I bleed every now and then just for the heck of it. Hollow spoke wheels. Haven't had a chance to use them yet, what with winter and all. But, they sure are light when I move them around the garage as I wash and wax the car. That's about it. Hey, maybe I'll get one of those flashing thingie side mirrors next!!

POST 5Original post

On my MY01 C4 Cab I've installed so far: * Strosek Headlight Covers * Bumper Plugs/Painted Bumperettes/Door Plug * Valentine One Hardwired * TouchTop * Bird Armrest w/Cupholder - plug painted AS * Dashboard Spoiler Switch * Euro Side Markers * Aluminum instrument rings * K&N Air Filter * Grateful Dead License Plate Holder Other mods I'm considering: *RoW M030 - worried about ground clearance. *Sports Exhaust - I think the stock exhaust is loud enough on the Cab and I'm not into drawing attention. I would like to change the tonal character of the sound though. OT: Have you and Cindy been to Dorado Beach Don? We had Chi Chi behind us there once, we let him play through.

POST 6Original post

To start with new, an Ocean Blue/Savannah Beige car, partial leather, with 18" wheels and upgraded stereo. Note that this model has a lot of blue sparkly plastic bits in the interior, as well as the basketball vinyl instead of leatherette. RoW M030 sport suspension. If you want to drive faster, do this first. I am thrilled with this. I do not track the car, but my favorite roads have a lot of very tight corners, BIG improvement. Actually wishing my Pilot Sports would wear out sooner so I can try the Pilot Sport Cups with it. GT-3 center console delete. Strikes me the center console was added some time after the original concept of the interior design was set--see one without, or just notice the crap fit and finish of the '99 console and I think you will agree. Also nice because I am tall, but I did it for the aesthetic. Good value to boot, one-third of a shift **** and IMO the best interior change if you only do one. Switched to Metropol Blue 3-spoke steering wheel with Savannah leather airbag. I got the steering wheel and installation under warranty due a leather fault on the original 4-spoke, but I bought the leather airbag cover which took six months to get. But I truly HATED the embossed crest in the original rubber airbag, and could never get the beige steering wheel really clean anyway. Plan on a long wait and a lot of broken promises if either of these parts is not in stock somewhere in the Porsche system (easy to find out). I don't know how much the installation is supposed to cost, but probably marginal value if the whole deal was at full price since the 4-spoke is probably somewhat superior functionally, although I am very pleased with the look. Metropol etched aluminum shifter with Savannah boot. Gert at Carnewal did this for me, can't normally be ordered this way. Obviously had this done when my airbag finally came, with the new steering wheel was like driving a different car--nice pick-me-up if you get bored. Metropol floor mats. Wish they were closer to body color. When I order a car, I will get body color carpets, since as you can tell I am not thrilled with monotone color-keyed interiors. Stainless door entry strips and the big fat chrome tips bought used on eBay. Perfect condition, a bit over $350 plus shipping total for both. Would not do either one at dealer price (even though I figured I "needed" a $325 shifter), although tips were installed gratis while I was getting some other work done. Cargraphic grill inserts. Not installed yet, but I need to get my bumper repainted anyway since some numbskull in an SUV scuffed it backing up, and four+ years of accumulated chips and such. Anyone else notice that even bugs go to the primer over 100 mph? I should probably dry the thing with a leaf blower or chamois, but my way in funner...

POST 7Original post

B & M short shifter kit is going in this week (too bad I can't test drive it after 2 feet of snow, bring on the spring!). All other mods were worth the money, especially the exhaust and chip. A high flow filter is a no-brainer for any pcar. I bought a Fabspeed high performance airbox which was a waste of money, no really a rip off (sorry Fabspeed). I have added clear side markers, and will replace rear tail lights with clear type. I am contemplating a Momo shift ****, but am not sure if it will fit... The car had the K40 in it when I bought it and I highly recommend it. Not only has it saved me a ticket, but here in VA, you don't want the cops knowing what you've got. It took me a month or two just to figure out I had it! I run Toyo Proxes that hook up! That was a big improvement over the stock Continentals. There's probably more, I can't remember... What a great car for upgrades! Have fun!

POST 8Original post

Modify a Porsche, whoever has heard of such a thing... -GT3 Aero Kit... gives a more agressive appearance IMO. I also did the GT3 spats behind the rear wheels. -GT3 Console Delete... gives the dash a more traditional appearance and at 6'4" all the space is appreciated by my knees and shins. Besides, the storage bin was to small to be of use and who uses tapes? -Leather 3 spoke steering wheel... vs. the plastic 4 spoke. Very easy interior upgrade for those with the early model 4 spoke. -Custom hifi stereo upgrade... nothing like hearing the stereo loud and clear with the windows down at 90mph. Replaced all speakers and added an eternal amp and subs. -Ash tray delete... no point having it if you do not use it -Fabspeed exhaust... now I can hear the car over the Lexus at the light next to me. Love that sound -Techart headlight covers... cosmetic modification that reminds me of the traditional 911's. Looks better in darker colors IMHO. -Litronic headlight... very nice at night -Clear side markers... -Silver Carrera badge... replaced black finished badge for more flash on the rear of the car -Kinesis K28's... wheels to truly personalize my car. Very light even when compared to the stock hollow spokes -ROW MO3O suspension... very worthwhile. Lowers the car and improves the handling with very little negative impact on the ride

POST 9Original post

No golf this time Rob..don't play anymore because of the eyesight thing, so this is just R&R.. Sure glad we're here and not on the Cape. They got 26" which is unheard of on Cape Cod. PS: I guess I have the only (so far) headlight covers on an 02 996. I won't see the finished product 'till I get back mid-march. Wonder if they'll "be accepted" by the "group" ???? I also want the traditional 'oval' look headlights. That's the only thing I don't like about the 996 over my 993. Well, we'll see!

POST 10Original post

Here are my mods, in chronological order: Clear side markers- easy no brainer. BBS LM wheels - I bought these to update the look on my 996 from the OEM 17" twist wheels. Great wheels, awesome look. I got a great price from wheel enhancement on these. The only thing that bothered me, they will not accept a Porsche OEM centercap without major modification. Sold them for a good price and turned around and bought a set of GT3 size Sport Design wheels, also by BBS, from Gert. I probably should have kept either my stock 17" wheels or the BBS wheels for track tires...oh well. RoW M030 suspension- Very nice upgrade for any US 996, the car is slightly lowered and handles like a Porsche. Bought it from Andial, had the local dealer do the install. Ruf Sport Exhaust- Bought this from Weissach to improve the sound of my 996, I couldn't hear the car at the track with a helmet. The sound is great, no resonance. Maybe a little power gain too. I recently added Ruf exhaust tips to finish the look. Expensive but the exhaust is a worthwhile upgrade. B&M shifter- just purchased from By design, can't wait to install it this weekend. Next...third radiator? Motorsports oiling kit?? Track tires?......

POST 11Original post

I've only had my C4S for 10 days but I've done the following: Gemballa Competition wheels Fabspeed exhaust (love this) K40 2000 remote system Stoneguard film (front bumper and mirrors only) Subtle tinting of windows all around More to come I'm sure!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

People, I love modifying my cars. I think I have the bug. I'm sad to say that I'm at the point where there is nothing left for me to do except for changing things out. How much are those flashie side mirrors. (mercedes style) Where do you get them. They look cool. Good to see that my two favourite Dons are on my thread. DJ have I given you the bug yet?? Don W Thanks again for helping me out with posting the pics of my car. Cameron

POST 13Original post

I was just kidding about the flashie side mirrors . I have no idea where to get them, or if they are even available for the 996. One of the reasons I got the C4S is that you get the most bang for your buck among the P-cars in terms of performance (sport suspension, better brakes, bigger wheels, wider tires, wider track) as well as in terms of "fluff" (why have those vents in the rear other than to look like the turbo?). If they had a street legal GT3 for the US at the time I was buying, I may have bought that instead. Not to say I am not looking to still modify the darn thing. On the contrary, I have the bug just like you. I think Don's got it the worst, but Misty is sure good looking. What's the Techart 996 widebody cab, as it relates to the regular 996? Maybe we can compare lists of proposed mods.

POST 14Original post

Rob, I could've sworn you had a Titanium badge on the back of yours. I feel like I know some of your cars as well as my own. Well apart from Don's that is. Just when you think he has finished, he hits you with more mods. Don, I look forward to seeing pics of your headlights when you return from your break. Steve

POST 15Original post

Hi Steve Yep no mod though, the titanium badge is standard on a C4.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Paltie** The mercedes side mirrors do exist for the Porsche. I saw them in excellence. Don't ask me why I can't remember the price. As for my car. You can see the picture that Don W posted for me. The thread date is January 29th/2003 17:29 This is a 996 C2 with a Widbody kit set over the factory body. The fenders are cut and reshaped to allow a MUCH wider tire an larger rim. The rim in the picture is 19"335 rear and 19" 245 front. It was next to impossible for me to bring the bang end out in turns. (Spoiled a bit of the fun) The rear spoiler is a Gemballa....? I just call it a big wing with vents. I used to have the Techart wide body bumper, but got sick of spending hundreds every couple of months repairing the cracked fiberglass. Remedied this by refitting the stock bumper and having custom vents cut and grills covering the holes. It actually looks better than the other one. Now I NEVER have any scraping issues even though my car is dropped.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My other mods. Don't fall asleep on me now guys. 1)H&R coilovers (Great addition if adjustability is your thing. After market springs with stock struts work fine for street) 2)ROW030 sway bars (Great addition for 300$) 3)Gembella Strut brace (Great addition for 300$) 4)ECU 5)Techart racing exaust 6)Lotech Headers 7)Sport Cats 8)HRE 19"335's frt 19"245 rear 9)Carbopn Fiber Racing Seats 10)Tequipment Cabriolet Rollbar (Looks adsolutely amazing and no one has them in) 11)B&M shifter (a great mod, racecar like feel, but a little notchy going into R and something seems not quite as smooth as factory. Still I love it) 12) Silver painted interior 13) Silver Gauge faces 14) Four-point seatbelts 15) Custom stereo,DVD and ten inch subwoofer located in a fiberglass box molded into the passenger footwell. 16) With a neat feature that draws a crowd. Remote top opener and closer. 17)Stripped a couple hundred lbs out of the car because my car guy said I'd maxed out the engine. Accomplished this with Red Sparco Carbon Seats, Removing the rollover protection, removing back seats (NONE OF MY FRIENDS ARE MIDGETS ANYWAYS and I stopped hanging around Gary Coleman) hahaha Changed out my 19's for 18" single piece Techart daytonas Powdercoated Arctic silver to match my paint. 18) As soon as I talk to someone that puts in the TPC supercharger and gives me the okay that's my next big mod. Any Questions Class???

HOO BOY!!!! That's what I call modded. I take it back. Don only has a mild case of the mod bug. Yours is terminal!!! Nice!!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oops! Rob WA I'm sorry I gave the credit to Don W for posting my car pics. You were actually the one so thanks to you. My mistake. By the way. How much is it to have the front bumper and mirrors protected with 3-M stuff? Also do you guys think that k-40 is a system that actualy shields you from Laser? Does it also work for regular radar. How much $$ to install a k-40 with a mirror hidden V-1?Are these worhtwhile mods?? *God, if it's not one modification then it's another*hahaha

POST 21Original post

Can someone tell me what the GT-3 console delete is? Any pictures available??

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When you have so many mods it's hard to remember them all. Doug, you've got quite the accessory list as well. I also have the silver crest on the hood. I removed both the front and rear seatbelts. How annoying is it to have only four point racing belts. I feel like Jimmy Speed Racer!

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Doug how did you like the handling change when you got the strut tower brace. I really loved it when driving the Canyons in LA. Sharp cornering is vastly improved as well. I'm also imterested in this console delete option. Anyone have a picture of it installed? (or uninstalled) Is is simply cosmetic or is it for weight savings?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kevin I love crazy cars, but I must say that your car looks very very clean. I love the look of stock chrome rims on a black car. So cheap and ahhhhh so nice. I'd actually love to see the new hollow spoke chromes on your car. (if you were on a budget, that would be the ticket) I think the car looks better with the hardtop. What do you guys think? Has the laser diffuser saved you yet. Is there any documentation that proves they work against laser? This is an expensive mod and I can't see myself getting it unless I knew that it worked. How much are they installed now? They used to be around 1400. In So Cal are there anyplaces that are alot cheaper? As for this techart power top module. Seriously, you can be driving 25mph and still lower the top without consideration to the top motor? How much does that cost. That is awsome! That is probably the best mod you have. It's so annoying sitting at a traffic light and suddenly deciding to lower the top. It's really hard to fully lower it. Never enough time

Cameron, Not sure if the Diffuser has saved me, although there was one time I came on to a Highway from a turn off, and it was blind hill, doing 75, the V1 didn't make a peep, I see him sitting in the middle hit the brakes to 55, he pulls me over and says I was doing 75, but then said nice car and slow her down..so it might have worked then. They are inexpenive, I just went with the Front defuser, just had my stereo guy wire it and mount it, I did't want the little lights or speaker in the car, so it was easy $250 for K40 http://www.jammerstore.com/p_defuser.htm The Techart module is around $600 from CEC, found mine on e-bay for a fraction of that. Only used a couple of times just put it in last month.. but it is cool.. there is just a little wind some Im not really concerned about the Top motor, besides im usually just rolling between 5-10 when I put it up or down.

I have an 01 996 C4. I have added a factory aero kit, GHL stainless steel exhaust and headers, B&M short shifter, H&R springs, BK harness bar & fire extinguisher mount, 6 point harness, track tires, pagid racing pads, io port camera mount, ROW reprogramming, cold air box, etc. The car is great on the track and the street. The guys at Foreign Affairs Motorsports build a great track car that is still reliable and streetable.

Where can I get clear corner lenses, side corner lenses and clear tail lights...? what is the cost? is it easy to install myself? thanks in advance Pete 99c2-Silver/Boxster Red

POST 33Original post

c70pete, Get the clear side markers from Suncoast Porsche. They cost something like $30 a pair. They install in 5 minutes flat, just follow the instructions in your owners manual on changing the bulbs. cheers

POST 34Original post

Nobody else have any mods. I'm sure there are a few closet case mod freaks around. Don't be shy.

POST 35Original post

How come my mods didn't appear before when I made posts? Now all of a sudden some of my mods are under my screen name.

POST 36Original post

Do you guys think that aftermarket headers alters the sound of our 996's?? Do you think with a header mod done alone the horspower increase would be noticable??

POST 37Original post

Do you think a K&N filter gives the car better throttle response. Does it alter the sound of the engine note?? Would a 996 owner be better off keeper the car stock than to add this mod? What are your thoughts.

POST 38Original post
