You guys can laugh, but I will state that for an investment of only 9-10000$$ you can have a playtoy for around 30,0000$$ if you find a good used S2000.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are hondas and I love them guys. You'll probably laugh and say it's simply a honda, but have you driven it?? Stock, the car winds up like a race car and when the V-tec kicks in hold on. I check out the s2ki.com website once in awhile and can't believe that there are a couple guys on the board putting down over three hundred to the wheels. One guy in particular named Chris. His car looks ridiculous with all of it's bells and whistles, abnoxiously loud exaust and funny looking ground effects kits. Look at his front bumper opening and notice the HUGE intercooler and my passion for speed begins to hunger. He has a turbo kit on his that is putting down nearly four hundred hp to the wheels. The car is driven on the street with 8lbs of boost running through the kit. He's set the boost at 10lbs on racing gas. Over 400 to the wheels. HisTQ curve is steroid like. Not something I'd expect from a honda. He's got 22,000 miles on the stock engine so far, no problems. I don't know what his TQ numbers are, but I do know that they are in the high 200's. You guys can laugh, but I will state that for an investment of only 9-10000$$ you can have a playtoy for around 30,0000$$ if you find a good used S2000. Will it smoke a twin turbo? When it comes to cars I know my stuff. Due to the weight advantage and knowing the car can take an 18" rim with 285 rubber. I would definately bet my bottom dollar that the S2000 would tromp a stock tt. Don't flame me guys, I'm a Porsche junkie, but I do appreciate high performance vehicles and believe the S2000 to be up there with Porsche for performance. *I can only imagine the reactions I'll get for this* After posting this I'll probably get reactions similar to Once you all catch me you'll probably do this to me Sorry, I like to too much, I say what's on my mind.

POST 2Original post

I think the S2000's are great cars for the money. I have no problem with them or the tuners who work on them. If they can get 400 hp out of that engine then more power to them. The boost he was running sounded a little low for an import. I have a friend with a Mitsubishi Eclipse and he runs 12lbs on the street and 18lbs when he races. Does anyone know how much boost the 996tt's run stock? A performance car is a performance car no matter what emblem is on it. -Andrew

POST 3Original post

If you want straight line acceleration and speed, this is one way to go. Sounds like a cool car. Now I'll be really impressed if it can keep up with a Porsche on the track.

POST 4Original post

It is my understanding that you can't supercharge an S2000 and get much out of it because the engine already runs a very high compression ratio. Besides, you have to ask yourself. What would you rather have? A Honda or a Porsche? lol

POST 5Original post

Cameron, I highly doubt it can smoke a TT.....I am willing to bet that that S2000 can't hook up for **** under 45 mph. There's a local guy here that's on these boards, Craig in LA, he's trounced many an S4, 300ZX, s/c mustang, Camaro on nitrous, Z06 etc etc. If you ever talk to this S2000 owner tell him to come out to Flames Cafe in Northridge on Thursday nights and strut his stuff.

POST 6Original post

I have an '02 S2000, and really like it. Mine's stock, but runs well for what it is. It's fun to rev it to 9K - from 6K rpms and up, it really moves and sounds pretty good, too. However, the only smoken' mine's doing, is inhailin' second hand smoke from the rear of my TT, about five blocks old.

POST 7Original post

Guys are getting close to 700 RWHP on modded 996 TTs (see the Stage XXXX thread on the 996 TT board). And then there's that little thing called handling.

Just like that S2000 by me in the Metro NY region that took FTD (fastest time of the day) stock with just tires far as I know. Even if its not stock, its not like its going up against stock Porsche's....it was faster than every other car there... It was a relatively tight course, but handling is handling!!

POST 9Original post

Who give a **** if the S2000 turbo has 300-400hp. You think ppl who drive a 996tt can't afford a $30k car? Grow up ricers~

POST 11Original post

These " I know a guy who's an oil changer at Jiffy Lube who has a '67 Chevy Nova that will smoke a 996tt ( or Ferrari Enzo ) in a straight line " posts are fun. Well 'gaw-dayam' , let's trade pink slips !

POST 12Original post

I wonder how long the motor will last cranking out that amount of power?

POST 13Original post

I owned an S2K with a Comptech Supercharger (dynoed at 280 RWHP) and ran it against my AMG C32 for fun. It's pretty much a tight race in a straight line, but in the corners the AMG gets burried. I didn't keep it long enough to play with my 03' 996. From my memory, handlingwise, the S2K felt pretty darn close to my 996. However, I had to be acclimated to driving the S2K like I had stolen it because there is no torque below 6K; but, from 6-9K it's another story. After my stint in the S2K, sans torque <even when s/c'ed>, I relished the days that I didn't have to shift at 9K to pass up granny driving her Caprice. But, don't knock the car because it's a Honda and it's "cheap". We all know that the people who post here can readily buy a $35K roadster. It's a bargain for those who like ricer cars. Heck, I guess my NSX could be considered a ricer, albeit, not cheap. Cheers....

POST 14Original post

I also own an '02 S2000 while a good friend of mine has an '02 996TT (hence my presence here doing research for him). The S2000 isn't fast compared to the 996TT but it does have a pretty good "fun to drive" feeling....it's like driving a big go kart mixed in w/ a motorcycle-like 9000rpm redline. However, the 996TT is just as much fun since it is just plain faster and actually probably easier to drive with confidence because of the 4wd and electronic aids. As for the claimed 400hp S2000, it's hard to imagine that (I'm not saying it's not true). I've seen a dyno plot for a turbocharged S2000 running at 7psi and it's about 300hp to the wheels. Either way, I'd be more worried about the S2000 drivetrain holding up that much power. It's well known that the S2000 clutch is small and is easily fried even by a stock car. All in all, both cars are a lot of fun to drive in their own right. It all depends on what you can afford I guess.
