I replaced all of the hoses on my FJ80 Land Cruiser a few years ago because they actually needed replacing, the few that were NLA from Toyota were easily matched with hoses at the local parts store.

It really sucks when you need one and can only find dry rotted used ones for insane prices...

The only reason I didnt check further at Suncoast is that your parts search showed nothing when entering the part numbers and Ellis said one was NLA.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is just a heads up if your replacing coolant hoses. The two large ones on the front of your engine (rear of car), #23 and #24. Looks like their backordered. Tried Pelican and Auto Atlanta. Ellis Porsche doesnt even show them as available. Guess I'll start trying other dealers next. I hope this isnt a sign of the future OME parts support. These hoses also have Gates numbers on them but have been usesless so far. On my 03, they look a little different than in the picture below. I really wanted to change these two while the engines out.
Correction, its just 24 you cant get.
Yep, I had also tried them. Part #s, didnt even show up on their search function.
For 2002 and up 996:
99610683201 also known as 99610683204
And, a correction, it is the large bottom hose you cant get. #24.

Regardless 7 or 11 years or whatever, I would not use rubbers that old.
KK better stockpile these and more wear items while you still can.
On that note, no one really thinks about stocking up on weather and window trim which is another important thing to consider if you plan on keeping your car for the long haul. Weather trim for certain imports are going for crazy dollars, now that they are NLA.
The hoses in the engine compartment look fine but they are 10 years old. They probably see the most abuse due to the engine heat there. I will check again with Suncoast.
I was about to cancel the backorder ones from AutoAtlanta and get yours but they are now on the way. The only reason I didnt check further at Suncoast is that your parts search showed nothing when entering the part numbers and Ellis said one was NLA. Does the Suncoast "parts search" feature not work for some part numbers? I would imagine most 996 owners know the part numbers for whatever they need.
I will know next time as I prefer to use site sponsors when buying parts!
Alp, thats what scares me. The parts support for our 996's will soon be even worse.
When this project is all done. Can you put all the good used parts that came off your car in a box and send it to me. I'll give a second life to them I promise.
Maybe in time, I can put together an entire 996 for free. Already have a steering wheel with airbag.
Then turn the heat down in your garage because we all know you don't drive it enough to warm that puppy up
I think you've just gotten bored with the IMS hysteria and are trying to stir up more trouble
Alpine is right about NLA trim seals. It really sucks when you need one and can only find dry rotted used ones for insane prices...
#23 looks like a regular hose. Go to the parts store and buy one of the same length.
#24 does not look like anything special either. Take off the old one, take it to the radiator shop or parts store.
Not sure about their part search online, but anytime I've called them they've always been helpful on the phone, and if you give them the part number they will source it and get it to you.
DS
Yup. If you don't mind using non-OEM parts (gasp!) you can usually find something nearly identical at a local parts store. I replaced all of the hoses on my FJ80 Land Cruiser a few years ago because they actually needed replacing, the few that were NLA from Toyota were easily matched with hoses at the local parts store. Lets face facts, they are probably all made by the same few companies anyway.

A few months ago I blew a water hose while driving to the St Elmos's Restaurant in Indy. Car sat there over nite, Bummer! I went the next day to the car pulled the hose and went to Advacne Auto. Bought a hose very close to the Pcar part. Installed the hose and added water. Got home and called Suncoast with the part number. I still have not change the hose out but I haven the correct Pcar part. When you are in a pinch a substitute will work just fine.
I finally got the scoop on the large hoses. The 996 ones are becoming NLA but some have changed to 997 part #'s. If anyone wants them I have some of the new part #'s. The 997 hoses must be very similar if not exactly the same. That explains why the old 996 ones are getting harder to find.
You guys are saying your finding the large O-ring type engine coolant hoses at regular parts store?
No, the o-ring ones are Porsche only, and those can be a royal PITA to replace. KK, if you haven't already, while you have the engine out and coolant drained, replace the o-rings (4) for the oil cooler. They are prone to leaking also. You have to be fast with a large towel to get it under the cooler as you remove it to prevent any cross contamination from spillage in to the ports.
I call and use Suncoast (and Sunset, too) all the time. Email them for a parts price with a part number list, and normally they email me back the same day. Great folks to work with.
With my experience with the lower production number 928, most parts are still available but the prices continue to go up year on year. It's the obscure things that are no longer available, like for example the waterproof cap that covers the connection to the oil level sender. These bits were probably quite cheap originally too. Might be a good tip for buying for the future. I'd guess they've stockpiled more parts with the 996 and with*interchangeable 997 parts it's maybe a little early to worry? Although they'll surely be more demand for the parts!
You might be interested to know it's often cheaper for me to buy parts from the US than from Porsche in the UK or from independents in the UK. Amazingly parts I've ordered from the US have arrived sooner than those ordered here. Great customer service too. 928intl being the main one I use! :-)
