I just installed the Audi auto dimmer that he re-glassed for me, but it doesn't have Homelink!
Leading evidence: 'Install audi auto dimmer' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'phone connector in the lower console' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install audi auto dimmer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The model that I installed requires hardwiring to the vehicle's power to operate.

Unfortunately, when I had my windshield replaced the mirror and adapter wouldn't mount properly.

Mine did the lava lamp thing but luckiliy only leaked on to the mirror itself, none ran on to the dash.

Also looks like I'd have to route switched power from someplace, probably the phone connector in the lower console.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I hate having clutter in the car like garage door openers, and now that problem is solved!
I just completed my latest mod - installation of a new autodimming mirror with homelink. My C4S didn't come with the autodimming mirror from the factory, so this was a nice way to upgrade to that feature, plus add homelink. I hate having clutter in the car like garage door openers, and now that problem is solved! The installation was very easy, and Scott at

was very helpful in helping me select the proper mirror and with the adapter necessary to fit it to the OEM Porsche mirror windshield button. I'm very pleased with the results. As you can see in the photo, i snapped a quick pic with my iPhone.
Thanks, I like it. I was considering doing the garage door opener mod, but I like the homelink option better. The mirror was $199, which is reasonable in my opinion - especially when you consider that it's autodimming too.
The Porsche OEM mounting button for cars without the OEM autodimming mirror is a "twist on" or almost a bayonet-style mount. This aftermarket mirror uses a wedge-type mount that is common on domestic cars. I bought an adapter with the mirror that slides over the Porsche button and converts it to a wedge, allowing me to slide the mirror onto the button. Once it slides onto the wedge, there's a set screw in the front that secures it. It doesn't sit perfectly flush on the glass like the OEM mirror, but it isn't really noticable unless you are looking for it.
Looks great Dennis! Just sold my '08 MazdaSped3 which had the same kind of mirror, and I do misst in the 911.
Does it require power to be run to it or does it run off internal batteries?
The model that I installed requires hardwiring to the vehicle's power to operate. It's only three wires - ground, switched and unswitched. It was pretty simple.
I believe you can get all 3 of those connections from the upper light console anyway so not much trouble to install. Dennis, what was the model for the mirror itself? I could not find it listed on the radar.mirror site.

Dang, I should have asked Scott about this! I just installed the Audi auto dimmer that he re-glassed for me, but it doesn't have Homelink! Great, fast service from Scott, and the new auto dim glass he uses is faster and darker than the old mirror and NO fear of oil run off. Mine did the lava lamp thing but luckiliy only leaked on to the mirror itself, none ran on to the dash. It was $100 to have it re-glassed, I never thought to just get a new one with remote.
I believe the model number is: 50-GENK41A. It's a Gentex mirror made by MITO corporation. They have other options too, such as a compass, temperature gauge, map lights, etc. I only got autodimming and homelink.
Dennis - is this the adapter for the auto-dimming mirror?
I haven't heard back from the radar-mirror folks, but I've found an alternate source for the mirrors.
The adapter I used was different. It looked like a little metal horse shoe.
Unfortunately, when I had my windshield replaced the mirror and adapter wouldn't mount properly. I think my new windshield has a different button and needs a different adapter, I just haven't looked into it yet.
Where did you find that adapter? Maybe it's the one I need now...
I'm interested in the same mod and am curious when somebody finds details on the button adapter. I have not seen any website say there is a compatible adapter for a porsche.
Could the original mount on the windshield not be replaced with a new mount that works for these mirrors? That way, you don't have to worry about an adapter.
I suppose it is possible, but the new windshield comes from the factory with the button already mounted. Perhaps there's a way to remove it without damaging the windshield...
IIRC, the coupes have both switched and unswitched power in the upper light console, but the cabs do not (unswitched only, I think).
I actually have one of these Gentex mirrors sitting in a box in my garage because I haven't had the nerve to try removing the original mirror. Also looks like I'd have to route switched power from someplace, probably the phone connector in the lower console.
Anyone out there who has installed one of these in a cab?

Give them a call and they will help with mirror options and the wedge. They offer an improved wedge now that has a set screw to secure it.
Did they sell you an off-the-shelf mirror with the homelink or did you ship them yours for the custom install? I didn't see an option to buy a mirror with homelink installed in it for purchase, only the ship-to and return option.
Another potential option would be to just get a BMW or similar mirror that has these features built in on eBay for under $100. One of these days, I need to take the mirror off my wife's car to see if the attachment is the same as the Porsche or if the adapter pieces are the same.
