I'm using AAA to insure my 2002 as pleasure car with 5000 miles/year.

I would just get a check from my insurance company for the agreed-upon value.

Long Islander - I recommend Leland West - they insure both of my Porsches and for $75 per car "Commuter Coverage" I can drive to work occasionally.

Determining the repair/replacement value of a 996 is not that difficult, as opposed to an older restored or original/low mileage car where book and actual value are very different.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an insurance company that provides agreed value insurance? I already called Leland West, which advertises regularly in PCA Panorama, but their policy is useless unless all you do is drive your car to concours events. I have no problem with their annual mileage restrictions but their policy doesn't even permit occasional trips to a nearby store. Who wants to split hairs about where you going to when you had an accident?
Anyone know of a collector car insurer that is less restrictive and is okay with use for occasional errands, etc?
Is this for a 996? If so, what is the advantage between this type of policy and a regular policy with very low mileage levels? Determining the repair/replacement value of a 996 is not that difficult, as opposed to an older restored or original/low mileage car where book and actual value are very different.
If the question is not related to a 996, never mind.
If it's not a daily driver, you might want to check with Hagerty.
I only had agreed upon insurance through them for collector cars or cars on their list. I'm not sure if the 996 would qualify or not.
Edit: They have a pre-qualification online tool and it seems like the 996 do qualify.

It's related to my 996. The advantage is that if some careless buffoon in an SUV plows into me while texting, I don't have to haggle with his sleazy insurance company about what my car was worth and have it compared to some banged up 996 with four prior owners and 90k miles that was sold at a dealer auction for some pitiful sum. I would just get a check from my insurance company for the agreed-upon value.
If you have a good insurance company you don't have to deal with other companies. This is what I don't get when I hear people complaining about the claims process - why are you arguing? That is what you supposedly pay your insurance company to do for you!
In the past 25 years I have been hit several times. Each time USAA has paid to fix the car correctly and then conducted negotiations with the other company over the cost. One time when a fault was in doubt I had to pay my deductible. Months later, once they had settled the claim, I received a check from USAA for the deductible.
Why pay a company, or in particular a local agent, only to have to do the work yourself when you most need their help???
i don't know what their restrictions were back then, but now they only allow you to drive to car shows, car club events or joy rides with no destination. So, you can drive the car to your local ice cream shop for a shake on a nice summer day.
Although I generally understand and agree with this, IMO one of the biggest advantage of "agreed upon value" type insurance is when you have customized or modified your car to a point where placing a value on it would be difficult for others to assess in the future. This ensures that there are no doubts as to how much your car is worth or valued if it comes time to pay.
If you had a completely stock normal 996, then your argument would definitely hold water for sure.
I had J.C. Taylor years ago for my 442. At that time, they allowed "pleasure driving", did not have to be to car shows, but you weren't supposed to drive it to work as a daily driver. Prices were very reasonable then.
Uhh... I dont know anyone for whom the difference between $15k and $25k doesn't matter. Insurance should cover the cost of repair and/or replacement. Basic.
Why throw rocks? Unnecessary.
Almost every carrier offers a "Classic Car" agreed value endorsement. The problem is in the definition of "Classic Car". Some carriers require the car to be at least 15 years old. Usually they will want some kind of certification of the value (appraisal). The only time the valuation comes into play is when there is a big claim and that is exactly when you don't want a problem. Ask your insurance agent and be willing to pay extra if you want the endorsement. The old saying is "which can you better afford, the premium or the claim"?
You have another good point on something I have overlooked. It's rare to find original owners these days, much less owners that haven't moved on from a 996 on these forums these days. Great to hear your loyalties to your 996 and your wife must also be receiving the same star like treatment.
Long Islander - I recommend Leland West - they insure both of my Porsches and for $75 per car "Commuter Coverage" I can drive to work occasionally. Each car has a specific annual mileage limit, and I am required to have a Daily Driver work car insured by another Carrier.
RPM S2 - You may love USAA ... until you have a TOTAL. Having had two and in both cases having a Very Bad experience with USAA - I switched to Leland. My every day Audi is still with USAA. Because after they totaled it I bought it - repaired it and drive it. In both cases I was treated like the bad guy even when the accident was not my fault. I do not care which Insurance Co. you pick - none of them want to pay out on a claim. When it gets expensive on a total they will all Low ball you. If you have a somewhat special (older Porsche) - or just a well cared for older car (my Audi A6) - they will screw you.
So - Thanks to Leland West... I now Pay Less - Have better coverage - Lower Deductibles .... And an Agreed Value if another dingbat on her Cell phone rear-ends my Carrera - I know exactly what $$$ I will have to buy a replacement!
I'm using AAA to insure my 2002 as pleasure car with 5000 miles/year. Anyone know if they will give me trouble if I go over 5000 miles and have an accident? I'm getting close, guess I enjoy driving it too much...
While I am the last guy who would want to defend certain auto insurance practices, I believe there are two sides to this coin in re. "agreed upon" values. First and foremost, too many auto owners (and homeowners!) have an exaggerated opinion of their possession's value.
For proof of this in the case of Porsches, just scan rennlist in re. "what's my car worth" postings.
In the case of real estate, simply note the difference in asking and selling prices, and how long most "For Sale by Owner" houses languish on the market.
Few if any auto insurance co's who offer "Agreed upon Value" policies will automatically accept an owner's opinion of what their car is worth. They will say "Bring data to the conversation; i.e., an appraisal by a professional, and sometimes two such appraisals."
