Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, new to the board. I am currently undergoing a dilemna. I have always dreamed of driving a carrera turbo - I have a close friend in the automobile business who owns a multi-marque dealership. Right now I have two options which fall into the same $$/month category - buying an M3 convertible, or leasing a 996TT. Currently, I cannot deduct any part of my lease, so it wouldn't benefit me in any way financially (although that should change in the next year or so). Although this is a 996 board I wanted other people's opions - this car will be a daily driver. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Go for an entry level 996, you will not regret the move for a daily driver live your dreams, write a check

POST 3Original post

consider a 2003 c4s as a compromise

POST 4Original post

Get the Turbo. It is a BEAST !!! and can be driven daily. I test drove the M3. It is a nice car, but doesnt come close to the TT in handling, acceleration, finish, etc. Good luck!!

POST 5Original post

OK, lets see if I have the choices right. BUY and OWN an M3 or LEASE a 996 TT for same amount of $$$$ with no tax advantage to leasing. Hmmmmmmm. Even a Porsche fanatic like me has to think about this one. Hmmmmmmmm. OK. I've got it. Get the Porsche!!!! Why? Because this is a Porsche Board!!! Heh-heh-heh. Seriously, it all boils down to what you want and what you are willing to pay for it. Definitely, the TT will cost you more than the M3 in more ways than one, but it is also a lot more car than the M3. Is it worth it? Again, this is a Porsche board, and I doubt anyone here is more of a fanatic than I am, so there should be no doubt as to what the answer is. If the money difference is making you hesitate, go for the C4S (as Ignacio has suggested), or the C2 ( as MJones said). IMHO, either of these two are far and away better than the M3. Test drive the M3 and the 996TT back to back. If you still can't make up your mind, I suggest you get the M3 and leave the 996TT for somebody that can appreciate the difference .

POST 6Original post

I suggest you try a C2 and the M3 Cab... you will have absolutely NO doubts afterwards Unless your are looking for a big trunk and big rear seats, stealth look and a more confortable ride, then everything else is pretty straight foward...the C2 is far superior.

POST 8Original post

Yes Dr this is a 996 board. However, I also own a BMW 3 Series (New Shape 320)with M3 wheels in Black(it looks the part) but the greatest comment I would make is the 996 looks the $$$$$, TT or not. It also goes and handles like what you would expect, not that the M3 doesn't but the 996 has been voted many times as one of the all time top 10 cars of all time. Okay now moving onto the subject of depreciation, well need I say more. Good luck with your 996 (how confident am I)

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for everyone's help. Being that my dealer is a close friend of the family, he was able to get the lease rate of the 996TT under the monthly payment on the M3 convertible finance. Unfortuately I have to wait a few months before getting my car - hopefully things are going to stay close to where they are with residuals, bank finances, etc. - but by the summer I hope finally be in my dream car. BTW, anyone have some good photos of lapis blue?
