Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I'm dying to buy a used 996 Cab, but can't seem to find the right one. I've been looking for a triple-black cab from MY 2000, in the low $50s, but they don't seem to be off lease yet. However the market in SoCal is flooded with 99s, many with low miles and some in the $40s! So my question is: the earliest 99s had some real issues, but they cleared most of them up by the 2nd half of the year (I think). How do I tell if a 99 is one of these later ones? Seems like, besides the extra 5 HP, there's not much different from those later 99s and the 2ks. And since there are so many around, and at such reasonable rates, it looks like I'd be getting a good deal on a great car. Thoughts? Thanks in advacnce...

POST 2Original post

Look at the drivers door sill and you can get the month and year the car built. My 1999 was built in June as has been relatively problem free.

POST 3Original post

I think the early build '99's are getting a bad rap. I had a '99 built in Sept. 1998. I owned it for three years as a daily driver and traded it after 55k miles for a 2002. I never had any problems with the car other than the known minor warranty items such as the air bag and check engine warning light issues. There was a recall to deal with corrosion on the engine compartment lid and you should make sure that was performed on any car you are considering.
