Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Advice please.... Alarmed the car last night, then noticed that the ignition key's red light is permanently on - and stil was when I woke this morning. It doesn't seem to make any difference when I press the button, so I don't think that it is stuck... does the battery need replacing, perhaps?

POST 2Original post

I've heard that opening the case and taking out the battery and putting it back again resets the key. When it happened to me, I didn't try openeing the keyfob since it was under warranty. Dealer came back and told me that they had to replace the insides to fix the key.

POST 3Original post

This is a not too uncommon complaint on newer Boxster keys - 1st time I have heard about it on a 996 key. Do like Chicago says - remove the battery for a few seconds and put it back in -instructions are in your owners manual. Red led will be off when you put the battery back in - and will light up when you push the button. Did it for 2 local Boxster owners and as far as I know the light never got stuck on again. Maybe one of you electrical guys can figure out why the light gets stuck on then stays off after the battery is removed and replaced. Porsche has a TSB for "defective" key heads but it does not mention this problem. Jeff
