Suggestion
The fabspeed just modifies the airbox by taking out the air silencer, plugging it, changes the intake hose, and I believe runs a bmc filter.
Leading evidence: 'Replace intake hose, and i believe runs a bmc filter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace intake hose, and i believe runs a bmc filter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Suggestion
I do agree that it's pretty expensive for what it is, but if it does use the bmc filter then that's half of the cost and the silicone hose would probably run another 40 bucks so it draws the cost from the airbox silencer mod.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

HI All.
I want a new/modified intake for 2 reasons: 1.) Better sound, 2.) potentially more performance...potentially.
Does anyone manufacture an airbox top that has cutouts for better airflow on the 996 (for use in conjunction with an upgraded filter)? Weltmeister makes them for 993, etc., but not for the 996...at least that is what I am told. Performance Products website is deceiving though...
I know the 993's had a motor sound kit that was eseentially just holes in the airbox...this is what I am looking for, something similar.
Has anyone made manual cutouts in their stock airbox? results? pics?
How about pure cold air intakes...are there any real good ones? The Fabspeed Powerflow unit seems to be expensive and looks to draw warm air unless I am seeing things.
Please help!!!
Thanks in advance,
Brad
I put a Power Flow intake on my '00 C-2. Loved it. Got a little more performance and the sound was fantastic. They are made in Arizona by Todd Zuccone. I do not have their URL.
NO you are mistaken. The fabspeed one in fact does not draw in hot air at all. There are ones that do if that's your forte for hp loss. There are about 2 or more that I know of, names escape me, but there is a used kit on ebay with a cone filter and basically a brace with the tubing. The fabspeed just modifies the airbox by taking out the air silencer, plugging it, changes the intake hose, and I believe runs a bmc filter. Pretty good setup for playing with stock stuff. I do agree that it's pretty expensive for what it is, but if it does use the bmc filter then that's half of the cost and the silicone hose would probably run another 40 bucks so it draws the cost from the airbox silencer mod. I really think that if you look close enough you can do the same thing yourself for the cost of the filter and hose with a few bucks for the mod.
I removed my Fabspeed air enhancement kit because I found it was causing a check engine light. The plastic ring included in the kit will not stay put and finds its way down to the MAF sensor and lays on the air filter. I got frustrated and removed the whole kit. My car feels no different. The sound is unchanged because of the Fabspeed exhaust. If I could do it again, I wouldn't upgrade the intake at all. The stock set up is really superb as is.
I'd be glad to sell any of you my cold air intake kit at 1/2 price. I've had it for about a month.
Just send me a private message...
geeze, how come you didn't just leave the ring and the mesh screen out? If there is the airfilter there I wouldn't think that anything would get in there?
