So the dealer was not "stuck" with a car built to my specs, in fact the day I cancelled they changed the order to suit themselves.

Bit of recap: 2002 C4S delivered June 2002, first transmission replaced soon after, and second one was bad as well.

He set me up with a nice door-side plug for that added bit of perfection.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My Porsche saga is over for now. I was a bit timid to go public because I made many mistakes but here goes: Bit of recap: 2002 C4S delivered June 2002, first transmission replaced soon after, and second one was bad as well. Instead of replacing for third time the dealer bought it back, paid off the lease. I ordered a 2003 TT, put $5000 down as they asked. Then personal issues changed, including possible military deployment, and I really cannot afford the car right now. Fortunately the dealer also sells Volvos, and I purchased a VERY nice S60 T5 (250hp turbo), black/black. Pics at http://home.satx.rr.com/amdtbird/ As you see I even added the rear spoiler and tinted the windows. Went with the same dealer since I had a sales tax credit. I want to add a big thanks to Eric the Plug Guy! He set me up with a nice door-side plug for that added bit of perfection. Great gentleman to work with. Mistakes: do NOT put any money down when you lease. I did, and although the lease got "paid off" I lost my down. The dealer also tried to really screw me on my deposit. When I cancelled the TT order they said it would be non-refundable (get it in writing folks). When I bought the Volvo they tried to say the deposit was an "over charge" on the old C4S. They said even though they bought it back, it was worth 5000 less than what they paid. So the $5000 deposit was NOT a deposit, but was just to "even out the buyback". HAH! They lied plain and simple, or I was too dumb to ask. Anyhow, I got up to leave but the Volvo folks worked it all out until I was happy. I have a 2 year membership here, and who knows I may have my TT sometime in those 2 years. Maybe not. It was a blast while I had her. You all have fun and be safe. ~urb

POST 2Original post

A buddy of mine with a '02 996 coupe also had to have his transmission replaced. Is this common?

POST 3Original post

Hey Urbanski...what a bummer, but in a negative sort of way you probably would have been worse off had you had the Pcar when deployment came. That's a neat looking Volvo. I had a chance to be hauled around in the XC version and I was impressed with the 'light' turbo and the build quality. Seats were very comfortable. It's not a Porsche, but time will pass! Good luck to you.

POST 4Original post

i am saddened and angry that you were treated so shoddily by your dealer. i hope you informed porsche in germany of your bad experience. such dealers should be weeded out!

POST 5Original post

Urb, You and I had our first Porsche and joined Rennlist almost at the same time. We even had the same car. I'm sorry that you had such rotten luck and experience with the P-car and the dealership. I'm glad that you still derived eventual satisfaction from the whole experience. The Volvo is not a P-car, but it is excellent in what it is meant to be: a SAFE, reliable, sporty, touring, family sedan. My "other" car is a Volvo S80 T6. Wonderful seats, excellent European firm ride, ample power (I beat a BMW 530i in a drag race to 130 mph), while feeling safe as a tank in the winter. Good luck to you. Hope you do find a better Porsche dealer. Who knows? You may be deployed to Germany, with the mission to patrol the autobahn in a 996TT!!!

POST 6Original post

This may not be the popular opinion, but why the in the world should the dealership return the deposit ? They were asked to order a 115 K car, as per customer specifications, which they now or will shortly own. Perry

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well PerryTishgart/996, allow me to elaborate: 1. My ordered car never went into production, I cancelled it first. So the dealer was not "stuck" with a car built to my specs, in fact the day I cancelled they changed the order to suit themselves. 2. I was lied to....it was never a true "deposit" but a way to ensure their profit on the old 4S. That 5 grand would not have been deducted from the TT price at all! Thanks Palting, Don, and ignacio. I will find another dealer no matter how far I need to drive urb

POST 8Original post

What do you do that could get you "deployed"?? Just curious as an ex Reservist!

POST 9Original post

This is just the kind of story you'd expect to hear about a dealer... Kind of ironic, but not really. Me, I'd never buy another thing from someone that apparently srewed you to a wall... IMHO
