Having owned a Millennium I did not experience a " premium ".....the market in the east seems to be between 54k and 58k....don't forget most have less than a year's warranty left...I don't see the premium used nor any collector value, IMHO

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all: Just hopping over from the 'other' water cooled forums to ask about the Millennium edition 996. A friend of mine is considering upgrading his 2000 Boxster to a 996. I am searching here and on the web for more information, but as always, first hand input speaks volumes. (And of course, the Porsche.com website is down right now! ) Is the millennium edition worth the premium one pays for it? My friend plans on driving the car, and not keeping it for someone else to enjoy. (his words!) He does plan on trying out a DE or two with it as well, so that he can learn how to drive it better. So, is it worth getting a Millennium edition C4 vs. a 'normal' C4 of the same vintage or newer? Regards, -Z-man. PS: Pay no attention to the 996 behind me in my avatar!

Just depends on how much he values the extra goodies it comes with, first thing is to show him the list of extras in Viken's link, and see if he preffers to spend the difference in price on different mods on a regular 996. If you are looking for personal opinions also, then personnally I have the same extras as the Millenium and think its well worth it. Here is a short description of the Millenium:
quote:
"The special year 2000 model with a 300-horsepower engine is based on the Carrera 4 Coup and has a sport-type running gear. The paintwork is chrome violet. Other external features that distinguish this millennium 911 from others are 18-inch Turbo Look wheels (monobloc) with a high-gloss finish (7.5Jx18 with 225/40 ZR 18 tyres at the front and 10Jx18 with 265/35 ZR 18 tyres at the back). The hub cover also has a high-gloss polished finish and a monochrome Porsche coat of arms. The model comes with a sunroof, a rear window wiper, a windshield with green band filter, Litronic headlights with dynamic headlight beam adjustment and a headlight washer. The exhaust tailpipes have a larger diameter than the basic 911 model, are chrome-plated and made from stainless steel. The rear lid is decorated with the glossy "911" logo. The already upgraded interior is given especially exclusive flair by a plaque engraved with the number that is attached to the switch cover. A particularly soft, brown material is used for the whole of the natural leather interior equipment - even the heating and ventilation outlets are covered with leather. The colour of the leather is tastefully co-ordinated with the root wood furnishings. The three-spoke sports steering wheel (a combination of wood and leather), the manual transmission shift lever and Tiptronic selector lever, the parking brake lever, the inner door handle and the covers of the two door storage compartments are all supplied in "dark maple". The roof liner is Alcantara black. The monochrome Porsche coat of arms can be found on the three-spoke sports steering wheel, too. Further features: fully electric seats with a memory function and lumbar support on the driver's side, seat heating, aluminium-coloured instrument dials on the display instruments, cruise control, on-board computer, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including a telephone and a passive handset, digital sound processing and a CD player"

Thanks for the replies: I appreciate the input, and will forward this info to my friend. BTW: the 996 C4 Millennium edition car he's considering has a mere 280 miles on the clock! Seems the Millennium edition is more than just badging: it does offer a whole slew of 'standard' options: what a list! More comments are welcome. -Zoltan.

POST 6Original post
