Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In cold climates, shortly after you have (unknowingly{??})used the A/C for defog, the cabin will now be quickly super-humidified, moreso than the humidity level that initially lead to the use of defog/demist, due to the aspiration of much or most of the just previously condensed moisture into the incoming airstream.
Leading evidence: 'Use a/c' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace i can support' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

During the times it can be used with reasonable efficiently to defog/demist the windshield I have no question that it is a tremendous aid in doing so.

The bottom line is that running the A/C year 'round seems useless to me, and does nothing but waste fuel.

It occurs to me that one of the reasons you run the AC in the winter time is to keep all the seals etc lubricated.

But I am very thankfull and extremely greatful that Porsche has the good sense to also ALWAYS use heating, ELEVATED airflow heating, along with the A/C for defogging/demisting the windshield.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 01 C4 is in the shop at the moment getting one of the unused console/panel switches wired in series with the refrigrant pressure sensor so I can disable the A/C compressor, TOTALLY during wintertime use.
During the times it can be used with reasonable efficiently to defog/demist the windshield I have no question that it is a tremendous aid in doing so. But I am very thankfull and extremely greatful that Porsche has the good sense to also ALWAYS use heating, ELEVATED airflow heating, along with the A/C for defogging/demisting the windshield.
Lexus (NipponDenso or Denso USA's idiot engineers)relies ONLY on the A/C (cool, dry airflow)for demisting/defogging the windshield, a method which is totally non-functional when the OAT is below 35F, and also of rapidly declining functionality as the OAT declines from about 55F to 35F.
But while the 996 A/C can be VERY effective as an aid in defogging the windshield, the follow-on result, aftermath, is extremely undesireable.
The bottom line is that running the A/C year 'round seems useless to me, and does nothing but waste fuel. I can avoid that aspect by always remembering to switch it off, but other than the switch I am adding I know of no way to avoid the super-humidification of the cabin after its initial use in the defog/demist cycle.
It occurs to me that one of the reasons you run the AC in the winter time is to keep all the seals etc lubricated. I think you could have some problems not running it for months at a time.
And I see no harm in clicking the switch on, occassionally, a few minutes before arriving home at night provided I remember to open the sunroof so the accumulated condensation can eveporate out of the car overnight and not be the cause of my windshield fogging over the next morning.
On the other hand my 92 LS400 has never (except teh first winter, 91/92) had the A/C enabled throughout the winter months and continues to be fully functional absent any maintenance whatsoever.
But then my 88 911 can't hold freon from one year to the next regardless. Gave up on trying to fix the leak years ago.
Except in defog/demist mode which is what causes some downstream fogging problems. Much of the moisture just condensed onto the evaporator vanes (during defog/demistmode) is left as a thin coating of mositure, guess where that will go just as soon as you exit defog/demist mode?
(Evaporators have gotten a lot more dense and complex, more total surface area, with the advent of the lower efficiency refrigerants).
Right! Right into the passenger cabin and almost directly to the cold surfaces of the windshield and windows.

If Superman were real do you suppose he would be helping us depose Bush Jr?
Now that's a regime change I can support.
Man, does that guy want to start a war!
