I bought the Porsche convertible seat (it converts from rearward to forward facing as the child gets older) and it worked fine rearward facing.

Hi has anyone used a rear-facing infant car seat successfully in the back seat of a 2000 996 cab? tired of driving the kid around in the big SUV. I know there's a Britax-made booster seat for older kids that can be installed with a air-bag deactivation kit by the dealer (about $500)....that's a later option. thx much

996blue, have you checked out the Porsche seat? When I bought my car my son was almost 11 months old and I tried the seat out of our Freelander but found it to be too wide. As we were due to buy a front facing seat I decided to not bother but I'm pretty sure that Porshe sell these. My conscience won't let me go without stating the obvious so here goes.... If you are using a non genuine seat in the front make sure that the passenger airbag is disconnected. Sorry for being so obvious but better safe than sorry and you'd be surprised how many people don't know that one. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> Steve

yes thanks Steve.....Looked into the Porsche booster seat, but will check out the infant carrier as well. Dealers will install the airbag disconnect only if you buy their seats. also found out that there have been some recalls on the pre-99 model cars. was wondering if anyone else has used the Porsche seats. regards

I bought the Porsche convertible seat (it converts from rearward to forward facing as the child gets older) and it worked fine rearward facing. My wife was a little cramped in the passenger seat, as it had to be pushed quite far forward. Now that he is 15 mos old and can sit forward facing it's much better. You can buy the exact same seat at Babies R Us, but it isn't any cheaper than through the Porsche dealer and they can have it work with the airbag cutoff switch if you want to put them in the front seat (not recommended)
