Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

 • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Embarrassed, can't find a website to buy a B&M short shifter.... can anybody please help??

POST 2Original post

I'd suggest the RUF one instead.. i think it's the best one to use... feels great and shifting is a lot shorter and very crisp

POST 4Original post

Another really nice SS that is new is the FVD SS. You may want to check that one out also.

POST 5Original post

SpectraG, Did you have problems shifting into Reverse, I installed mine, then called RUF, there was a bulletin for the reverse... I haven't had a chance to work on it, just curious if you had the same problem. Kevin M.

POST 6Original post

I have the B&M short shift on my Boxster S which has the same gear box as your 996. It takes a little getting used to but is fun to use. Like any short shift it takes more effort to shift than the stock unit. Best price I found was at titan motorsports web site . Paid $250. Their phone number is [phone removed]. No affiliation with them just was a customer. Cheers.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks... and does that come with the stubby shift **** with the Porsche emblem (and a boot?)

POST 8Original post

It does not come with boot and **** just the shifter mechanism. Performance Products carry it. IMO-it's way better then the stock unit-shorter throws and more precise. Other units like RUF?Techart installed via tranny but B&M is via center console. Regards. Mike

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Mike... so the existing stock Porsche **** and boot are refitted? Or do I need to replace with a new one for the lower look.

POST 10Original post

With the B&M unit, you need to break out the stock shifter, its a plastic ball/joint unit with teeth..the teeth have to be broken to removed, which is ok..but if you end up not liking it your SOL. Anyways, I have the B&M in my 996C2. I have felt the ruf unit and I dont think it is as good. With the B&M unit 2nd gear is notchier but there is no flexible feel to it. I did have a problem with reverse, and with a few of the gears. The car would pop out of reverse at times, and twice I had a problem with the entire gear set. It is fixed now. Turns out you need a special tool to make ABSOLUTELY sure that the gear shift **** is exactly at top dead centre or middle, if it isnt you will find problems in engaging gears, especially reverse, thats why it pops out. Just make sure whoever is installing it has done it before, or have your dealer install it and he should make sure that the gear **** is at top dead centre before the install is cpomplete.

POST 11Original post

Yes Cheg996-the original boot/**** fits right over the B&M SS kit. Regards. Mike

POST 12Original post

Kevin M, I did not experience any problem with it.. I had it on for half a year.. then I took it off since I am selling my car.. The ruf SS for 996 is different from B&M and FVD.. unlike the usual SS, RUF replaces a part that's connected to the transmission instead of the shifter itself, i think it fits better this way..

POST 13Original post

A friend and I just put the Ruf kit on our 02 and 03 Turbos. Took about 45 minutes each. Very smooth shorter throw, no tearing into your stock shifter. Adjusts to 30%/40%/50%.
