Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
In my A4, it also does not want to shift for the first couple of times and the radio is slow to change the display as well.
Leading evidence: 'Replace display as well' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace display as well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you lived somewhere where it was always cold, you would change the engine and transmission oils to a low viscosity synthetic.

Tonight, my car started fine but the radio did not function properly for the first 10 min until the cabin warmed a little, the car did not want to change gears for the first mile and the ride is much harsher due to the cold.

Suggestion
I don't have the radio problem, but I have to double-clutch to get it into 1st or 2nd until the car has run for about 10 minutes.

Suggestion
My previous air-cooled 911 would never warm up enough to run really well at these temps, but the 996 does so in about a mile or so.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have any unusual experiences with their 996 in this very cold weather?

It's been from 20degF to -5 degF here for two weeks

Mine is a cab and when it gets cold the rag top makes a lot of snapping and popping noises, until the cabin warms up. The tranny takes a bit longer to shift, ie shifts at a higher rev point. Other than that, no variance from the normal.
Other than the radio, this is pretty typical cold weather operation. The viscosity of all the oils increases pretty dramatically in sub-zero weather. This increases the force needed to move the sliders in the transmission as well as the move the piston up and down in the shocks. This all loosens up in a few miles. If you lived somewhere where it was always cold, you would change the engine and transmission oils to a low viscosity synthetic.
It is minus 12 degrees F here in Minneapolis as I write this.
I try not to drive the Carrera too much when its winter/too cold, but the other night I saw -2degrees on the display! The car is definately harsher when its cold. In my A4, it also does not want to shift for the first couple of times and the radio is slow to change the display as well. I also noticed that the blinkers(turn signals) are a bit slow when first started after sitting overnight.
My 1983 928S 5 speed would not even go into 2nd gear when cold, I had to go from 1st to 3rd until it warmed up a bit.
Oh, by the way, I HATE THE COLD. I should move to Orlando with the in-laws...Well, maybe not.
Good Luck.
Ed,
The temps are in the teens here in Virginia this week. No problems to report with my 996 daily driver. The heat works great! More creaks and groans from the interior. Tire noise is much more pronounced. My previous air-cooled 911 would never warm up enough to run really well at these temps, but the 996 does so in about a mile or so.
I have a 2002 cab and previously had a '99 cab. Have had no real problems in cold weather except I notice the gear shift is a little stiff for a few minutes and on the '99 I sometimes had problems with the CD changer in cold weather, but not in the '02.
Same thing to report today. The other oddity I noticed seems to be that the brakes or something freezes when the car sat at my office for the day. When I first back up, I have to give it much more effort to move the car and it stops abruptly. This seems to go away by the time I am out of the parking lot. All in all, the car seems pretty good in the cold. And the heat does work great.
