The data I have shows the full cage came with the car BUT the front section was shipped seperately and installed (or not) by the dealer at the purchaser's discrestion.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey does anyone know what the GT3 clubsport is? I was hoping that it WOULD NOT include a roll bar, but be a lightened version of the regular GT3. Does anyone know.

POST 2Original post

PAG has not specified what's included in the Club Sport version for the '03 model but in the past the Club Sport included the fixed back Recaro racing seats, 6 point harnesses, and a roll bar. Karl

POST 3Original post

The GT3 is already lightened from the regular 996. A lightened GT3 could be a cup car. The ClubSport option is the GT3 seats in Nomex, the Cage and 5 Point harnesses. The latter two items have to be installed by the dealer to avoid legal constraints on the manufacturer.

POST 4Original post

The only Club Sport that I sat in (at the factory) had the cloth seats, the roll cage and also had a fire system in it. Was that part of the Club Sport or was that an option? This pic was taken behind the factory (appalling security ... Roy

POST 5Original post

I don't believe the Club Sport models get a full-cage, just the Tequipment style bolt-in bar in the back. It's relatively easy to remove if you don't want it and I'm sure there is a ready market of 996 owners that would be happy to take it off your hands. But then why not get the regular GT3? Also note, that the GT3 6-point harness, while FIA approved, is not legal for US PCA DEs or Club Racing. The PAG lap belts are only 2" wide from the factory and PCA requires 3" lap belts. Karl

POST 6Original post

I have heard that the GT3 will actually be heavier than the standard 996... With the larger brakes & the additional performance equipment it is to all add up to a tad more weight. Please tell me I am wrong.

POST 7Original post

No data out yet but this is the quote from the press release: "The engineers at the Porsche development centre in Weissach have completely redesigned the new GT3. They focussed their efforts on excellent handling, a high standard of active safety and a lightweight design, the ultimate goal being, of course, a supremely sporty drive." Karl

POST 8Original post

Yes, the GT3 is slightly heavier than a C2 (about 50kg in the past)

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1999 GT3 1349kg 1999 996 C2 1320kg So the C2 was lighter by 30 kg or 66lbs. But don't worry, my mechanic had driven a 1999 GT3 when he went to the UK and he said driving the GT3 made the regular C2 feel like a Toyota Corrola...his words not mine...

POST 10Original post

The first generation GT3 carried 41 pounds more fuel in its 92 liter tank, so to make the comparison to the standard C2 you have to deduct the fuel's weight since the factory weights included it. Doing this the difference is only 25 pounds. The Clubsport option included a 3 point India red seat belt for the passenger, a red Schroth 6 point seat belt for the driver, the bucket seats (included in all models BTW) were Nomex covered flame retardant cloth rather than leather. A rollcage, emergency kill switch and fire extinguisher were also installed.

POST 11Original post

In Australia the Club Sport got the full cage, not just the Roll Bar. Plus the seats and harnesses, can't comment if they were leather or nomex because I thought I saw both. Leather may have been in non CS version though? Couldn't remember the extinquisher but it would make sense that it gets one fitted. Dylan.

POST 12Original post

RWO, is that one of the NEW GT3's? The interior looks like the 02 update? The seats are actually fire resistant Nomex and not 'cloth'. Good question on the fire bottle. I recall reading somewhere that it was $395, but not sure if that was for a part or as an option. The data I have shows the full cage came with the car BUT the front section was shipped seperately and installed (or not) by the dealer at the purchaser's discrestion.

POST 13Original post

Ed, That was a photo I took on March 6th, 2000 in back of the factory. There were dozens of GT3s parked in the back of the factory that day. That was a new car with all the stuff covering the paint etc. It had the full cage, nomex seats, and fire system installed at the factory... We walked around and looked at several GT3s, started them up, etc. Roy

POST 14Original post

Since the 02 GT2 Club Sport comes with a two part cage (rear roll-bar, additional front parts for complete cage), it seems likely that the factory would employ the same approach on the new GT3. A buddy is using just the roll-bar part of the cage on his 02 GT2 Club Sport but was provided with the front section as well. Ted
