The dealers are reimbursed by Porsche for performing repairs so my advice would be to go to 2-3 dealers until you get one to repair/replace the items under warranty.

I have found the "discretion" used by dealers vary dealer by dealer when evalutating items that could be covered under the warranty.

I just noticed on my '02 996 c2 that the retractable spoiler has a very small crack in it. One of the small slits (that run across the top of the spoiler) is cracked at one of the connection points in the middle of the spoiler. Any idea if this would be covered under warranty? There is no evidence of paint damage (like someone had hit it). Another one... One of the small plastic pieces that comprise the pull out cup holder cracked. Would this be covered by warranty? I would hope so, as these cup holders are poorly designed. Any thoughts or personal experience is appreciated...

The dealers are reimbursed by Porsche for performing repairs so my advice would be to go to 2-3 dealers until you get one to repair/replace the items under warranty. Good luck!!!

Well, I took my car by the dealer today to see if they would cover those items. They didn't even flinch when I mentioned the cup holder--covered. The cracks in the spoiler were investigated by the manager and an ok was given to replace the whole spoiler-- that can't be an inexpensive fix... So far, I can report that the Austin dealer here gets a grade A (my first service encounter with them in my short p-car life)...

It's great to hear that the dealer took care of you. It is definitely true that the dealership employees are generally the judge and jury for warranty dollars and the factory takes their word on what should be covered. This ethical and pressure filled dilemma is one of many reasons that dealerships should be more highly regarded and appreciated. Let's keep this in mind when we all talk about how many thousands of dollars we can suck out of the dealer profit when we buy a car.
