Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In normal light it looks fine but if I use a strong halogen light the surface looks a little "white".

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I waxed my Porsche the other day. I have a black car and I am very pleased with the result. First I used clay and then I polished it using a machine with a rotating foam pad. The only thing that I am not 100% pleased with are the bumpers. In normal light it looks fine but if I use a strong halogen light the surface looks a little "white". It is simply not the same glas finish as for example the hood. What could be the reason for that? Robert

POST 2Original post

Very normal. Your bumpers are not metal with paint on top. Plastic bumpers, especially if aged a bit, are hard to correct. You also run the risk of twisting the paint off if you are machine polishing. The paint in those areas do not like too much heat and friction so care must be taken. Your front bumper especially takes a ton of abuse. I can take a guess that your rear bumper looks pretty damn good compared to the front. Another guess without seeing the car: the white you are seeing under halogen lighting might be some haze from polishing. Let me know what machine, pad and products you used. There may be a simple fix. Not a great answer or solutions offered but its just part of the detailing game.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I have heard about the problem with overheating when polishing on plastic. My front bumper is relatively new (about 5 years old). I don't think there is anything wrong with the machine (it is a cheap machine I don't know the brand) or the polish (it is Sonax car polish) in general. I also doubt that I left polishing compound on the bumper since that didn't happen on the rest of the car... Maybe I should go over the bumper again but with just a quick gentle polishing? Maybe that would help? Robert

POST 4Original post

Is the machine a dual action polisher? I would go over the area again with the least cutting foam pad you have and the finest polishing product. Slower speed and less pressure. Slow down your arm movements as well. Dont linger in one spot too long but just slow down your section passes. The haze won't necessarily be left over but hazing actually on the clear coat similar to holograms.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The polisher is a rotary buffer but I do have a dual action polisher as well. I'll try to do as you suggest. Thanks! Robert
