Always surprised at how cheap (even with the dollar/pound conversion) that UK used cars are.

I had a similar issue with my 928 S4 and the first mechanic told me I needed a tranny rebuild and then next one suggested that I change the tranny oil and filter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

anybody watch the above show, in the latest episode they tidy up a Boxter S.
I totally get taht it is staged, but other then the lights thay they changed I thought it was a good episode and a great buy
Gah, my freakin DVR crapped on me Wednesday so I have to wait for the rerun. Don't spoil the ending (I'm betting that Ed fixes the car and Mike makes money on it!)
Even with some expensive "updates' that the car didnt need, it was one of the few that they made good money on, rather than the normal $500 profit after Ed spent 40+hrs fixing
Heh, I think the type 930 they did way back (with the toasted transmission) was their biggest "profit." Honestly though, does Ed work for like 2 bucks an hour? 'Cus I would double his pay! Are you listening Ed, ditch Mike and come work for me!
I saw that episode and was shocked that the guy sold that car for 1000quid, I am guessing somewhere around $2500
The only real problem was changing the tranny oil
Didn't his mechanic give him advice

Great episode, thanks for posting robo. It's always fun to watch Ed fiddle with the mechanics of these project cars. By the way, I happen to like the new clear lens headlights, just like on my 996.
Watched from Japan so I don't think any restrictions. Great watch. Hate to be the guy watching his 1000 porker being fixed for next to nothing. Without the optional extras he would still have a great weekender.
Thanks for the link. :-)
Good episode, thanks for posting. I have the old style lights on my 996 (it's a very early '99) but just can't pull the trigger on a 1k upgrade for pure cosmetics when the lights I have are in great shape and work just fine...but I do prefer the newer lights.
The Lotus Elan they did was pretty close to the most they made- plus he was swamped with buyers, so he probably sold it a bit cheap. Always surprised at how cheap (even with the dollar/pound conversion) that UK used cars are.
That aired here last night. Couldn't believe the sale at that price, $1000. Ed did a fantastic job, as usual. I also can't believe they spray painted the gray leather seats. How's that going to hold up I wonder? But for that cost...who cares! The car came out looking very good, but hey, consider it was a Porsche to begin with!
It's a TV show... who knows what they really pay for these things before Ed puts in 3000 hours of labor and then Mike "sells" it for peanuts.
They never seem to mention how many miles on these cars either.
Regardless it's an amusing show
Nearly all leather found in new cars these days is painted - your Porsche too, sad but true. Tanned and dyed is a more expensive process usually found in very expensive cars or upgrades.
I always laugh when the claim to make a 500 quid profit! If they factor in Ed (a mechanic)'s labor, they would lose money EVERY time!
Like you said Marc, an amusing show.
For sure they would be the worst business men in auto history, but I still enjoy watching it and always like to see when a 'Big problem' turns out to be a few hrs work and $50 of parts.
Hopefully it will encourage a few to work on their cars, or keep older cars on the road
I like the show. The way I see it, it's showing that if you are willing to put in the work you could find a diamond in the rough and fix it up so it's worth something.
I do enjoy the usual TV tricks where a 10 hour job becomes a 20 second segment but I understand no one wants to see the boring manual labor part of it.
Plus I laugh every time they put Ed into a compact car and he is tall enough to stick his head out of the sunroof.
I wonder if anyone over the pond seen the one Mike brewer done where he started in India with 3K and his task was to trade up to a supercar, Travelled the world and ended up with a you know what!!
