I just want more feedback from those of you who have installed before I order the Super or Sport.

They have installed dozens of these exhausts with the original tips.

Departstop said they had installed dozens over the years, and that they were about 10-15% louder than the Sport Exhaust system.

I'm also looking for sport exhaust and ran across Zerotek.

The same order number is used for 3.4 and 3.6 engines, and apparently the original tips can be reused for the 3.4, but a new set of tips have to be used for the 3.6 (911007 -- $289.95PR).

Troy, that was my fear as well; however, I posted the question on Renntech and another Cab owner replied that he has it and loves it...just recommended using factory tips.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

and asked him about the super sound...but he seemed confused with the terms....he thought I wanted the PSE....when I told him that I wanted the louder ones he had to look something up......my problem is now that I don't want the fabspeed lookalike cans, because the sound seemed very muffled...i wanted the Supersound ones...I tried to call 5 minutes ago...but got a message that "all circuits were busy"
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

local dealers are offring it for $2,100 so the $1,450 from Brandywine is still not to bad.
in the post WHERE TO BUY A PSE we touched the idea of a group buy for a PSE
Sunset is selling them for $1803 plus shipping.....maybe there are better deals out there!!
If anybody is interested put you name on the list and see how many mad modders we can group together.
okay let make a list (like with the smart top group buy) put your name below mine with a price you are willing to pay (realistic prices please!!) I think that if brandywine sell them for 1499 we should be able to get them in a groupbuy for 1250-1300......
Nicolaasdb (between 1250-1400)
I am in for $1,350 or less.
Am I correct in understanding that there are 2 versions of the PSE? If so I would want the latest version and the price should include the electronics.
Okay you guys are NOT going to be happy.
Since brandywine's selling them for 1499, which is the cheapest in the business (so they claim and i think they are right) they can only give us 50 bucks off in a group buy...which is a joke ofcourse...
He (Paul) told me there was no room for any other discounts.
I guess I just have to dig in deeper and cough up the 1500 bucks.....
Sunset asks $1803...so even when they give us a 20% discount it will be the same as brandywine in a groupbuy
are there any other dealers who sell the PSE's at a good price..maybe we can try them
I understand this is "supposed" to be about the best sounding exhaust, but
what performance gains come with the PSE.......?
And $1499.00 includes the electronics, right?
No performance gains. I guess if you aren't going to install the electronics, it's probably best to get an aftermarket exhaust, because then you possibly gain an extra 10 hp and save approx. $500 over the PSE and supposedly some of the other exhausts sound similar anyway, although I'm not sure which brands/models sound similar and which are louder.
I have a call into Sun Coast, I have purchased Boxster and 996 parts from them before, I'll see what they will do; however, they are listing it for $1,799 on their site. local dealers are offring it for $2,100 so the $1,450 from Brandywine is still not to bad. Hope I can get some good news.
I just called them. They want $1750 plus shipping with electronics and $1000 plus shipping without electronics as a group buy. Which is down from these prices taken from their site as a screen capture (although it looks like they added $55 with electronics- lol) Oh, and by the way, he said that Porsche raised the price on February 1st and last year they sold the for $1300 plus shipping:
I'll call Pelican and Suncoast next.
Pelican is charging retail ($2100) plus shipping
if and only if
there are any located in the US that they can obtain, if they have to import from Germany they would be more. So they don't have any in stock and they can get them for retail or more than retail. Thanks a lot.
Suncoast in Florida wanted $1795 plus $23 for the switch plus shipping. They said a group buy has no effect on price.
I guess 1499 isn't that bad...adn I hae asked around (on Rennlist) which the best sounding (non muscle car like) exhaust was and PSE was the way to go....so I guess I got to fork the 1499 out (plus shipping) to make myself a happy camper!!
Hi guys-
I haven't properly introduced myself to the forum (still working on pics!), but I wanted to quickly jump in here to present another idea to everyone. I recently bought a 2002 C4S and have been doing alot of homework on which exhaust I'd like to buy. I've personally decided on a system by Dansk. They are a Danish OEM company that produced the PSE system.
They offer an aftermarket version of the PSE which is essentially the exact same muffler- minus the tone adjustibility. Also, they have a "Super Sound" system that I'm told is the same style, but even less restrictive (considerably louder).
Here is a link to hear both systems-
http://www.jpgroup.dk/images/feed/so...compressed.pdf
As for price- they can both be bought for under $1200. Departstop.com is the retailer I have been in contact with about the system (a great group of people by the way), and before I pull the trigger, if enough people are interested, I'll be happy to organize a group purchase with the owner. I haven't heard an exhaust sound that I enjoy more, and the price is hard to beat.
Ross
just buy fabspeed for under a grand because you really dont want to turn it off. it's just too good and fabspeed is just as good as OEM if not better IMHO.
here we go again with the fabspeed-PSE comparison......
I have heard that the Fabspeed is a great exhaust if you don't mind the deeper sound....but if you are looking for the throaty raspy Porsche sound you should stick with a PSE....so I have been told by many rennlisters.....I am still very confused....
If Dansk really make the original PSE's it would be great if they have a louder one with the same tone....I don't need the switch, because I want more sounds...but not a deep muscle car like sound
Inflation my man. Even though the government isn't reporting that it's out there, it's definitely out there. Metals are higher (commodities everywhere are) and wages are starting to rise. I'd buy everything you think you need now. Just wait to see what things look like next year.
I agree with you: the Fabspeeds sound a little more muscle-car-like while the PSE is raspier and more Porsche-like. I'd really recommend the Rufs, which I love, except they make the prices you guys are talking about sound like chicken feed. The Dansk exhaust is equally excellent. And on a budget, GHL regular (for a cab) or loud (for a coupe) is solid.
And as for the switch, you're right. You're never ever going to use the switch except as a gimmick. My pipes are pretty loud if I get on them, but if I limp gingerly through the neighborhood, they're more than find (let's not kid ourselves: they aren't straight pipes nor cat bypass pipes). Besides, don't forget that even if you do go the PSE route with electronics, you're still going to need to implement the wiresnip-workaround to ensure that the PSE growl doesn't cut out at certain revs (that would be the electronic actuation of those bypass valves in the muffler that you might have seen in some posts).
the dansk exhausts sound pretty good.... ( if found sound clips..and have been driving myself mad..listening to GHL -loud, reg, FABSPEED, PSE, DANSK....and I LIKED THEM ALL!!!)
but in the end the PSE....maybe the soundclip was better....sounds so good.....especially driving away.
GHL is a very close call, Fabspeed is much deeper, and Dansk sounds so close to the PSE's but nobody has ever mentioned them on Rennlist.
Now it is not the money anylonger (except for RUFF's, because I am not going to pay 2K or more!) the cheapest is GHL I guess , 2nd Fabspeed, 3rd Dansk and 4th PSE.
Maybe I just have to go to a Porsche meeting and listen...
Ok- placed a call to Departstop this morning. The owner is up for a group purchase. Here is the pricing info-
5 sets sold= $875 each (your choice of Sport Exhaust, Sport Exhaust (OEM PSE Style), or Super Sound)
He's told me that he has plenty of both systems in stock. I'm really suprised about the pricing considering I was about to pay $1190 for one (and even
that
was a good price- they retail for ~$1600)
Just to clarify- the Dansk "Sport Exhaust OEM" IS the PSE system, minus the adjustible butterfly valve and electronics. There were a few different manufacturers of the PSE system throughout the years- I'm told that Dansk produced the majority of them.
The "Super Sound" system is of an aftermarket style, unlike the factory pressed Sport Exhaust/PSE. From the outside, it looks like Fabspeed, etc. (oval shaped). Departstop said they had installed dozens over the years, and that they were about 10-15% louder than the Sport Exhaust system. Said that the interior noise was about the same for both systems.
I'm in for sure and will set everything up if others want a set. Just post here or PM me.
Dude, gains on almost all exhausts are marginal. Do it for the sound, and if you happen to feel any bottom of the seat gains, then consider yourself lucky.
Holiday, do you know if we will need to buy new tips or if we can use our old tips and does the year of the 996 matter? The link shows tips (they labled tailpipe). Not sure if they are required specificly.
Holiday:
I'd be interested in the Sport Exhaust; can you find out what size the tips are, whether their is a choice of style of tips, and are the tips optional? I just ordered tips from Vertex - darn! Anyway, I'm looking forward to putting these on my car ASAP!
Jsaindc- Don't need new tips- the factory tips will mount to both of these systems. Both exhausts will fit any 996 year model.
Dale- Tips do not come with the exhaust, but your Vertex tips may fit fine- asked Departstop, but they weren't familiar with installing the Vertex tips. If they will fit the factory PSE system, they will fit either of the Dansk models.
Wow ... At prices like $875, I'm in !
I see 3 options on that PDF.
1) Sport exhaust (96.300S)
2) Sport exhaust OE style (looks like stock) (96.330S)
3) Sport Exhaust Super Sound (96.300S EXP)
Here is what I felt. Please add your own view ...
#1) This sounds GREAT !!! This is something I've been looking for.
Is this how the PSE sounds ??
#2) This sounds just like stock mufflers. Maybe louder ? Dunno.
#3) This sounds more like a muscle car. Its loud and nice but not what I'm looking for. I felt its a bit like fabspeed.
So the obvious question. If they are the OEMs for the PSE, then how come their mufflers LOOK so different (eg, #1) than the PSE ? And I've heard from several people that Dansk was the OEM for the PSE ... (including a local Porsche shop which specialised in making porsche race ready) ... so I'm a little confused.
Because #2 on your list (96.330S) is the PSE version, not #1 (96.300S). That IS confusing- isn't it. All three systems are referred to as "Sport Exhaust", so I need to choose my words more carefully. Any of the three systems are available at the $875 number we were quoted.
I think you meant Eisenmann, and you'd be right- Dansk and Eisenmann both manufactured OEM PSE systems, but I don't know the info on which cars were supplied with which.
Holiday - Are you certain about the
Dansk "Sport Exhaust OEM" IS the PSE system?
The reason I ask is because the pics and drawings of the OEM mufflers on the Dansk site do NOT show the second pipe exiting from the muffler. Their drawing looks like the top muffler in the first pic below, which is a stock OEM muffler. The actual OEM PSE is shown in the second pic.
I know you said they do not have the valve to switch from quiet to loud and back again, and that part is OK with me and probably some others. I just want to make sure if someone chooses the "Sport Exhaust OEM" that they don't end up getting what they already have, which is OEM non-PSE.
Gota911- Man, when it comes to pics- you're all over it!
I don't have any personal experience with the systems to know for certain, but I was told by Dayton, the owner of Departstop.com, that part number 96.330S is the PSE system minus the adjustibility. My certainty only stretches as far as my trust of his proffessional knowledge- so no, I'm not positive.
I did manage to find the PSE OEM system that Dansk manufactures with the butterfly valve/electronics- it's part number 96.335SOUND. This shows the extra pipe that you speak of, so maybe the pipe is only associated with the adjustibility function. You can check it out if you download the exhaust catalog off of the main link I listed in my first post.
Also, if you listen to the 96.330S sound file- it's definately got alot more grunt than at least
my
basic OEM exhaust.
For what this diagram shows, 96.300s can not be be PSE, see picture below, item #1. I may be wrong but it looks like the PSE is 96.330S (item #4). Item # 5 appears to have a bypass tube...
Okay Holiday count me in....I listened to the sound clips and they sound pretty good and real to the PSE to me.....now I just have to figure out if I want the PSE or the PSE loud....did they give you any indication about how loud, loud is?? Because in the clips loud sounds pretty good....I just don't want it to be bypass pipes loud..if you know what I mean!!
Here is a list of those who are in on the Dansk group buy:
1. Holiday
2. Delirium
3. Troy R
4. Dale Tillman
5.???
I'll update it as needed. If you'd like to join in- PM me or post here to be added. We only need 5 to get the GP pricing.
HMMMMMMMMMM.............decisions, decisions!!!!!
I think it will be going to be the loud one...15% sounds still within the limits and if you keep your foot of the gas..it should be fine. I will be listening to the sound clips and make my final decision later tonite...or tomorrow morning early!

The super sound....sound deep but I listened to a clip of the PSE (not the dansk site clip) and the supersound seems to have the same deep tone, just louder!
Anybody have ever heard the super sound live?
Good question. Judging from the looks I would say that the OEM style is heavier or at the least the same as stock and the Sport and Super Sound look lighter than stock, JMO. I am very close to pulling the trigger on this one.
I think the Dansk's sound more Porsche like than the Fabspeeds, because the Fabspeeds sound very Muscle car like....in their sound clips that is.....I like the more raspy sound.....did anybody listen to the 4th option, with the sport cats??? This sounds perfect!!
Hey, nice picture !
That begs a few questions. Looking at the picture
1) looks like their own design. This may sound like PSE or not ...
4) looks like the stock muffler. Out of curiosity, how can this sound like the PSE without the J bypass pipe (version1) or the pipe form version 2 of the PSE (from corner to outlet) ?
5) Looks like the first version of the PSE when it came out, with the 5/8" J (bypass) pipe. I'm thinking this would be EXACTLY like the PSE.
I guess I'm back to square one ... not having heard the PSE, which one sounds like the PSE ??
My ears don't know Porsche-like vs. non-Porsche-like, they only know good (they like) vs. bad (they don't like). Fabspeed sounds great to me - I'll listen to the Dansk when I get home (better PC speakers).
I am interested in the super sound. These sound more raw or "Porsche" than fabs IMO.
But i wonder how loud they really are, its hard to tell from clips...
When does this GB close?
Sids911 I have the same dilemma, have not heard thePSE or Fabspeed... I just spent $220 doing the 'PSE mod', which did not give me the loudness I was looking for... the supersound looks an attractive option... If fabspeed sounds better, it it worth investing on this, but it looks like Dansk may actually produce a better sound.. It is quite hard to judge thru computer speakers b/o there is not way to judge the real loudness of these mufflers.. most likely I will be in for a group buy, but not sure yet which one to order...
Nsang
I have the same problem!! I want more loudness (without losing out on the original Porsche sound) and I also think that the PSE is not loud enough for me....I have been listening like a madman to all the sound clips...but like you stated there is no way to understand the real loudness...because the exhaust will no thave a volume control (except for the PSE)....but who cares about that... It would be nice if someone has one installed...and can tell us...because I don't want the muscle car Fabspeed sound!! I guess we have to take risk...afterall it is only 850 bucks.....if we don't like it sell it on Ebay and go for the original PSE!
Does anyone here have photographs of the original PSE for the 996 ? I think the one in 1999 ? That one had a J bypass tube between inlet and outlet. VERY similar to the figure on the prev. page (#5).
I just wanted to see how different the ACTUAL version 1 of the PSE differs from what I see in the prev. page. I'm thinking of modding the stock for cheaper than this ...
nsang, which was the year of the muffler and what was the diameter of the pipe you installed ?
Ask and you shall receive. THE first pic is not the "original" small pipe PSE, but from a a company in the UK selling these. The second pic is the later version of PSE for a 996.
Sids911, I used 2" as suggested on the PSE mods thread... Some of my friends are telling me they can hear a change in the tone of the sound (deeper).. I personally, can not, but I was expecting a bit more radical change...
Delirium- Was told around $50 to the east coast (the company is in CA). That should give you a ballpark for everywhere else.
As for an end date- the GP will end next Thursday (April 27th). That will give everyone a chance to make their mind up.
I'll be going with the Sport Exhaust option myself (non-OEM).
To place an order, let's just have everyone shoot me a PM with your:
Name
Address
Phone number
Year of car
and Exhaust style
You can also email me at
[email removed]
if you prefer. I'd like to have everyone's info by the end of Thursday, so that the orders can be placed on Friday. Dayton has told me that they have a large stock of the exhausts, so there will be very little delay getting them in our hands. If you have any questions, let me know via PM...
Exactly my concern too ... any answers anyone ?
As a side thought, does anyone have sound clips of the REAL PSE in action ? For the 996 ? I really want to hear them ...
Update
I called the Dansk importer here in the U.S today, and he knew very little about whether the "OEM Sport Exhaust" that Dansk offers IS the PSE minus the adjustibility
. Don't know why this is such a mystery- it either IS or it ISN'T. One would think that the importer of a product would know a little more about the subject...
SO.... bottom line is, no one knows for sure, although Dayton is convinced that it is the same exhaust.
Clear as mud, I know...
If I can get one super sound for the price quoted in the group buy...then I am in! Like stated before if I don't like it I can always sell it and go for the original PSE.....I liked the sound in the soundclips.....so Holiday let's buy them and start upping the noise level in SOCAL a little!!
SUPER SOUND ME!!!
will the exhausts sound different on a 3.4L vs. a 3.6L?
I have noticed that my OEM muffler is already louder than the OEM muffler in the Dansk sound clip.. so I am thinking those sound clips are from a 3.4L. How will a 3.6L sound? Same? Louder?
We must have crashed the site. I can't seem to get on any longer. I will decide very soon. My guess is the 3.6 will be loader than the 3.4...it is in stock form.
I am stuck deciding between the Super Sound and the Sport (non OEM Style). I like the sound of the Super sound but think that it may be to loud with the Cab. Also, I plan to add headers and sport cats which will make a difference as well.
I have the Italian GP on and those F1 cars sound amazing.
i dont think the sport sound is loud enough in the clip, I hope it is louder. I also think the 3.6L will be louder, unless the loudness on the 3.6 comes from the updated muffler as well as the engine...
I have decided to go with the SUPER SOUND version.
Anyone think that the sport muffler sounds like fabspeed maxflo? I sorta do...
To all of those who intend to place an order, please be sure to send me the info I posted above (please include your Rennlist username)... This lets me know exactly how many we have in the GP, and also provides the info that I'll give to Departstop.
Once the GP ends on Thursday evening, I'll send them an email with our ordering info. Everyone needs only to call-in on Friday to provide their payment info- this will complete the order. Speak to "Dayton"- his number is [phone removed]
Thanks!
Ross
Folks,
FWIW: Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but as I'm browsing the latest catalog from Performance Parts (automotion.com), I came across their offering of Dansk exhaust systems, they offer 2 types for the 996, (1) a stainless "round can" model (900124 -- $1175) and (2) a pressed "sport" version model (912930 -- $1155). They claim 30 hp increase over OEM muffler for the "pressed" version, and a chart, in the catalog, shows a decrease in hp for the "round can" version vs. OEM. The same order number is used for 3.4 and 3.6 engines, and apparently the original tips can be reused for the 3.4, but a new set of tips have to be used for the 3.6 (911007 -- $289.95PR). Nothing is said about loudness.
I'll be gone to Cabo for the rest of the week for some needed R&R, so I'll miss the group buy conclusion, but just want to pass the info along, and hope it is useful.
Best of luck!
I just checked out the automotion.com site and they put the 993 and 996 on the same muffler page...give a very limited description
...the original Dansk website is more detailed and has sound bites.
When I order the "cans" I will ask the guy from Departstop all the details, because I want to keep on using my own turbo tips
....and all the talk about HP increase of decrease
.....I don't think I will feel the difference....the sound alone will make the car seem faster....
Have a nice vacation in CAbo.....lucky you!!
Nicolaas: Yes their website sucks on the description of the mufflers. And they have 2 models for the 993: (1) for the 2/4S #900122 -- $975, and (2) for the Turbo #900123 -- $1175. My scanner is unplugged right now and apologize for not being able to provide the scan.
Cheers.
P.S. I'll be thinking about all my Rennlister folks, in between the Cervezas and Margaritas
Gert - WOW, that looks just like your pic! I downloaded this pic about 4 or 5 months ago when I was doing some research on PSE cans, but I don't recall where I got it. At the time, I knew it looked familiar, but couldn't remember where I had seen it before. Well, now I know!
I sincerely apologize for unintentionally "ripping you off"
and have deleted that pic from my PC.
No worries, I just found it strange to see that someone actually photoshopped the logo out of the picture. I always use the same background, so it's easy to spot my pictures.
I am worried about this, I signed up for the GB, but may pull out of it, I dont want to loose HP, and I think the super sound is the round version... also, I have a 3.6L, so I will need new tips??? I dont want to change my tips, can anyone clarify these issues? Holiday, do you have info?
Whoooah.... don't believe everything you read (especially if it's on
Automotion's
scattered website
) Not only is that info very confusing (they were combining info for both the 993 and the 996 systems), some of it is just plain wrong. I called Departstop to confirm everything (I have them on speed dial by now...) and this is what the owner said:
First, you definately don't need new tips for ANY year 996- your stock tips will fit fine. They have installed dozens of these exhausts with the original tips.
Second, I haven't seen this Dansk dyno sheet that shows their own systems
loosing
HP- Automotion doesn't have it on their website (is this in their catalog only?)
The shop has dynoed several of these systems with no power loss- most gained a few HP (speaking of all 3 systems).
Finally, Dayton mentioned this-
if we are unhappy with the exhaust we purchase- we can exchange/return them.
Don't know about you, but that's all I needed to hear.
Hope this clears everything up...
I AM STILL IN!
I would be very strange that a exhaust (sport) made by a company that has made them for Porsche (because of course Porsche doesn't make 90% of their parts in house...they work like every car maker with suppliers) for a while would get you an inferior product....and if they have a return policy they must be confident!
Of course I might be wrong and the planet earth is flat and we are living amoung aliens (and I am not talking foreign workers without a permit!)
Just a reminder to everyone.... Tommorow is the
last day
for the GP, and I only have

Rx2476?
Don't have any info from you, though you've said that "you're in". Please try to get me your info by the end of the day
My car is in the shop anyway so I called and found out the following for overnight shipping: they use UPS so they cannot guarantee delivery but 'Brown' has pretty good reliability. Anyway, for next day delivery by 8:30 am add $69 to the total including the $50 that is already in the total for shipping, i.e., $69 + $50 + $875...for a total of $994. Add $41 for delivery by 12 noon and add $35 for delivery by 4:30 pm. Disclaimer: I'm located fairly close to Departstop.com so I'm not sure whether they can do the same for any of you out of state guys...call to check.
I'm forced out. I have some other stuff to take care of for the car this month (front bumper, fenders etc). Damn !!
Sorry guys, but hey - your group buy is going ahead anyways !
I'm definately still in, just wondering if should back down to the Sport Sound instead of the Super? Worried about coming home late and waking up the neighbors. Also the whole cab thing, will it be too loud? I want my exhaust to have definition, but I don't want it so loud like a stinger on the ricer's.
Troy, that was my fear as well; however, I posted the question on Renntech and another Cab owner replied that he has it and loves it...just recommended using factory tips. I also called Departstop and they said it is not that the Super Sound is any louder just a different tone, much lower. From the sound clip it also sounds that way. I am going to give it a try. If it works out it will be nice to have something different as I do not personally know anyone with the Dansk. According to holiday's post, Departstop is willing to do exchanges if we are not happy, I certainly do not want to go down that route though.
Never got your PM-
please send it again...
Thanks
List is updated, and the GP is a go! I'll continue to update throughout the evening if anyone else jumps in. Everyone needs to call Dayton tommorow at Departstop, and he'll take care of the rest! I listed his number in a post above. Thanks everyone!
Thanks jsaindc. I'll stick with the Super Sound and try it out. Your'e right, if I don't like it I can always exchange it or sell it on Ebay. This is exciting!
For what it is worth, I got concerned over Performance's Dyno chart in their catalog. I called them and they said that the chart was in error and that the round can and OEM can got switched. What that means according to their chart is that the round cans will gain very little 1-5 HP (but does not loose HP as the chart shows) and the pressed is correct at almost 30HP gain (I doubt that but that is what the chart shows). Additionaly, they have the Dansk mufflers on sale until the 3rd for $998.75 so that means that we got a good deal. I will be calling Dayton shortly, I am tempted to switch to the pressed cans though.
I think just about any muffler upgrade alone will ony get you 1-5 HP on a NA car. Fabspeed, GHL, etc.. I dont know if they can get you more than 10HP, I can be wrong, are there dyno charts?
There is a dyno chart in their catalog; however, it is worng as I stated, mixing up the OEM and the round cans, so I am not sure I trust it...I am releaved though that they are not saying the round cans loose HP like the catalog does. My concern was that I do not want to loose HP..It did not seem correct anyways-why would you loose HP with a lighter and louder system?
I'm also looking for sport exhaust and ran across Zerotek. I have heard some sound clips and it sounds good although the sound clips include a Cat bypass. The Zerotek are going for $599.00 right now. Has anyone heard anything about zerotek? I want the Porsche F1 sound not the muscle car sound.
Also, has anyone heard the Gemballa mufflers? Any comments or sound links?
Thanks,
Dan
The pressed are the Sport OEM style.
I just called Departstop and they told me that Dayton is in meetings all day so we may need to wait until Monday to order...just an fyi.
I got the same thing when I called. Left my number with him almost two hours ago. Interesting that today is the order day and suddenly he's not available. I hope they don't back out on us.
Hey guys- I called today too, and apparently Dayton (the owner) had a family emergency and won't be back in until Monday. Looks like anyone else who would like to join in has until Monday now...
I called Dayton yesterday, placed the order, rec'd em today and they sound great...exactly what I wanted. I also purchased Schnell tips and they are crap and going back to Vertex. Who has the best bang for the buck on tips?
I got the sport exhaust (non OE)...they are pretty much exactly what you hear in the sound clip...I don't think they are quite as loud as the fabspeeds or GHL's, which is what I wanted...at the last minute I changed my mind from ordering the OE PSE's; to me they sounded the quietest on the sound clip. Anyway, I was only able to drive it about 5 miles in stip and go so I've gotta get out today and let her rip...
Dale- thanks for rubbing it in our faces!
j/k Really glad to hear that the exhausts sound just like the sound clips- if that's the case, then I know I'll be really happy.
I'm actually going to be in L.A this weekend and had hoped to pick mine up today, but Departstop isn't open weekends.
What other work was done on the car while you had it in the shop?
Holiday!!!!! The departstop is in LA????? Man that makes it even better..I have got to go to LA Monday to pick something up and can pick up the cans too!!! Where are they located?
And Dale...if they sound like in the clips..than the super sound should be exactly what I want. Have a nice drive..got to go to work (well work..shooting pictures of scantily clad women) got to make money for the exhaust..and the new X5 I bought yesterday.
I did not even bother to call on Friday after reading that Dayton was away... I am curious how the Super Sound will sound... I hope just like the sound clip too. Anyone know if the Super sound is lighter than the OEM non sport cans?
Troy, are you still going with the Super Sound? After Dale's post I may switch to the Sport. I'll need to talk to Dayton. Holiday, no problem switching cans since the orders are not placed yet, correct?
Holiday: had to have the clutch slave cylinder replaced...kinda wierd considering the car only has 55,000 miles...geez, my SC had 250k miles and I never replaced anything except the alternator. Oh yeah, well, had to have the tranny rebuilt, too. But still...
Alright guys- today's the day! Be sure to place your call to Dayton with your payment info- he has an updated order list. Seems like 80% of us are from S. California- maybe we should get together and organize a group installation (GI)
Ross
Jsaindc - no I haven't decided yet. Have you ordered? Has anyone actually ordered the Super Sound? Did I understand last week that the pressed cans were the Sport sound, and that the pressed cans have more HP supposedly?
I have not ordered yet...waiting for Dayton to call me back, left 2 messages on Friday and 1 today. I want to talk about it with Dayton. I keep going back and forth on this one. I like the sound of the Super Sound but I am starting to think it maybe to loud. I heard that the OEM style sport gives better performance but I think it sounds no better than my current exhaust (from the clip). I'll let you know what I do. Have you made up your mind?
No, I haven't. I want it to be defined and distinctive, but not obnoxious. I left my name and number with Dayton on Friday also and so far he hasn't called back. Please do let me know which one you decide to go with. I'll do the same.
I called Dayton this morning... and asked him about the super sound...but he seemed confused with the terms....he thought I wanted the PSE....when I told him that I wanted the louder ones he had to look something up......my problem is now that I don't want the fabspeed lookalike cans, because the sound seemed very muffled...i wanted the Supersound ones...I tried to call 5 minutes ago...but got a message that "all circuits were busy"
I am going to check the supersound serial number so there will be no mistake about which one I want and get
Nicolaas- if you continue to have trouble, just tell him to look at the excel file I sent him- it's got the specific part number for each of our orders. That should help keep the confusion down...
Just got off the phone with Departstop and placed my order- Super Sound on the way! I'll try to get it installed by this weekend, and will let you know what I think...
same here holiday...can't wait to install and hear the kitten ROAR...like TIGER...sorry I know it sounds cheeasy....but I am so sick of the silence of my curretn exhaust!
It sounds to me like ordering them isn't as time sensitive as I originally thought since several of us haven't had our calls returned. I'm going to wait until Holiday and Nicolaas get theirs installed and send some feedback before I choose the Super's or Sport.
Hey guys,
Hang in there, we are short some sales people and having some issues with our 800 numbers. I will get all you you handled asap.
Cheers
Dayton

Ok, I got the sport PSE non OE...they aren't really very loud at all, which is what I wanted...so you guys who want a good deal of sound I'd definitely reommend the super sports...I'm pretty sure you'll be much happier with those...you guys who want more exhaust note but don't want to become really freindly with the local guys in blue, or who know, like myself, that I can't help but put my foot into the pedal often and are afraid of the consequences from, again, the men in blue (god, I can't stand those guys) because of my lead foot, should order the cans I got...HOH!
Hmm.. this makes me think that the Super Sport will not be loud enough for me, if they are only 15% louder than yours... Grrr... anyone else install yet?
UPS just dropped me off a box! Box was packed well, and arrived here in 1 day- thanks Dayton! The mufflers look great- very solid and the welds look nice. Each muffler weighs 13.5 lbs (I couldn't seem to find weights for other systems, so I don't really know how this compares with the rest- weight isn't much of a concern for me anyways). Don't have time to install them today, but by Saturday they'll be on. So far so good!
I'm still interested and will give Dayton another call. I just want more feedback from those of you who have installed before I order the Super or Sport.
I just called thedepartstop and got Dayton on the line rightaway...he is checking if my order has been send out.....I need more sound and need it NOW!!
Well, didn't quite get the exhaust installed this weekend like I had hoped. I've been pretty busy lately, and though I wanted to install the exhaust myself, it doesn't look as though I'll have time. I now have an appointment with a Porsche specialty shop for Wed. Their labor quote was (pleasantly)suprising- only $100. I'll do the full write-up on Wed.
promisses promisses....has been 3 weeks now..Dayton promissed me today (Friday) but unless something happens in the next 40 minutes the day is over!!! ****...I am glad I didn't order anything I really needed to keep my P running...because that would suck big time!!!! Don't know if I would ever purchase anything else from the departstop.com..........lucky not having sport exhaust isn't stopping me from driving!!
