I had pretty noticeable passenger seat shake (like 2-4mm oscillations) event after replacing motor mounts, so trans mount was the next thing on the list.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well like 90% solved, the car still has some harmonic shaking in low idle. But I digress... I had pretty noticeable passenger seat shake (like 2-4mm oscillations) event after replacing motor mounts, so trans mount was the next thing on the list. I did notice the driveshaft flex disk was cracked up as well, so bought one of those as well. Fast forward to this weekend: finally got around to swapping all the parts out, which turns out to be a pain in the *** as all the bolts on there are loctite red'd at crazy torque. Nothing like trying to use a breaker bar under the car... After some wrestling with the loctitle, I pulled the old stuff out - the trans mount had one side blown out and was essentially resting on the metal, flex disc had cracks all over - i can more or less bend it in half in my hand. Put all the new stuff back in (82nm on the driveshaft bolts, 65nm on all the mount stuff) and voila, no more shake. Also downshift to first gear is now unnoticeable, where as before it there would be a pronounced thud. Same goes for shifting in general. 2002 C4S tip, 114K miles

Glad you fixed it. Iwould love a write up with pics so I could attempt someting similar.

I'll piece that together after work, there are some pics on 6 speedonline that i can reuse.

POST 4Original post

If I'm not mistaken, you have to take out the transmission to replace the mounts? Sounds like a fairly complicated DIY. I sometimes get a thud when shifting into first at a standstill, figure that might be due to failing transmission mounts. Replaced my motor mounts a couple weeks ago. Figure I'll get the transmission mounts replaced when I get my clutch/IMS/RMS repaired. Thanks, Chris 2002 Targa 79k miles

POST 5Original post

No, you do not need to take out the transmission to remove the mount. Removing all of the underbody panels, keeping track of all of those little plastic nuts, and not dumping half a pound of grit that has taken up residence on top of the panel into your eyes and mouth is the hardest part of the job.

POST 6Original post

Just found this nice write-up, doesn't seem too difficult: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...nt-w-pics.html

POST 7Original post

Are there two transmission mounts? This one seems a lot harder to replace, requires a shop press: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...ion_Mounts.htm

POST 8Original post

Can you even inspect it without taking the underbody panels off?

POST 9Original post

Ones for an auto and one is for manual. There is a replacement mount for the manual that does not need to be pressed in.
